Sit. Stay.

I like things that have a staying power.  Especially “things” I like.

Okay… what do I mean exactly?

Well, I am drawn to those parts of life which seem true, and long lasting.  The things you can count on.  Your dog.  Your watch.  Your watchdog.

That appliance which has worked for 38 years now, and still…. going strong.  A good old album by your favorite Rock Group.  Mount Rushmore.

Some things are fleeting.  Those things which fall into the “Flash in the Pan” Category.  For instance, how about that Gangnam Style Guy?  The one with the giddy-up dance, and slicky hair.  I for one am glad he’s not at the forefront of popular media attention any longer.

Furbies.  Poodle Skirts.  Fried Everything.  Milli Vanilli and Scritti Politti.  Those sorts of things.

Then there are times when something seems to last forever and you don’t want it to.  The Flu.  Poison Ivy.  Bad Hair.

So, yes.  Those things with staying power …. which I like.  The main thing that comes to mind are people.  Those certain individuals in our lives, who are there through thick and thin, high and low, fast and slow.  The True Blues.  The Tried and Trues.  Pallies.  Buds. A few select friends.  A few select family.

And if we are lucky enough to have them in our lives… we should be thankful.  Grateful for them, and for every moment we share with them. They will always be there in spirit…  but sometimes the moments have a way of slipping by.

Life is so full of this….  this series of times when our hearts are filled to the fullest… and other times when they are emptied beyond belief.   Those hearts of ours.

And… that Staying Power.  Is what I like.

True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island… to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep him is a blessing.  —  Baltasar Gracian
