Ring Bell for Service

Lone Barn

I want to be nice. All the time.

Dogs are nice…. and happy… and good… whenever they have the chance. I wish I could be more like my little pallies this way.

But there are times when I just don’t feel so friendly. I don’t like it when this happens, but it does.

Which brings me to this.

Have you ever walked in to a store and approached the Customer Service Desk…. only to find out it is anything but that?

The person behind the counter is miserable, and they have absolutely no intention of helping you?

I guess in all fairness… the sign normally just says… “Customer Service” It doesn’t say “friendly” or “quick” or “proficient”…. or even “mediocre” Service.

It simply says Customer Service. Which… when you come right to it… the meaning could be interpreted as “poor & defective” service… or “despicable” or perhaps….. “malevolent.”

Today, I approached such a place & person. The man working there was less than helpful. I tried to be nice to him, regardless.  But to no avail.   I ended up figuring things out on my own.

But sometimes I feel the equivalent of these so called “helpful areas” may as well be a in a deserted barn in the middle of nowhere. Far beyond the reaches of good will, common decency, chivalry, and politeness.  Even away from the well-mannered cows and the pleasant chickens.

It is at times like these when I consider getting a Marmoset for a pet.

Because… as you know…..

Marmoset there’d be days like this.

Man is the only animal that can remain on friendly terms with the victims he intends to eat until he eats them. – Samuel Butler

Be friendly to everyone. Those who deserve it the least need it the most. – Bo Bennett

I believe in TRY

The Master

I used to think Yoda had it right.

I love Yoda, by the way. Full of wise words, he is. So short and cute, he is.

Anyway. In his first film role, Yoda says… “There is no try. We do, or we do not.”  Or something along those lines. Well… I am not quite sure that he is entirely right.

Oh…. It is true in the fact that we either succeed or fail. But I do believe in trying. One must make the conscious effort to attempt whatever that thing is.

Okay.  Here is a for instance.  Let’s say there is a 50 foot wall in front of you. You say… “I’m going to try and scale that wall.”

Now just walking away with no intention of not going up that wall…. is “to do not.”
Conversely, scampering right up to the top is “doing.”  But what if someone scraps and crawls, and pulls, and climbs…. and they get 25 feet up there… and then they fall right back down to the ground. No they did not succeed. But they tried. Hard.

So I believe….. there is a “try” after all ….. Yoda.

You see, I think most of us probably DO have a little bit of Jedi Warrior in us. But at the same time… we are a bit more like Dory the Forgetful Fish from Finding Nemo. Somedays… it is the best we can do to “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.”

There are times when we just keep trying ….. and continue to make forward progress.

Tonight… I am moving forward. I am starting a new arena for these meanderings… and projects.

It is called “The Big Can Do” in honor of the Spirit of Trying….. of people who have that “Can Do” Attitude. So if you need to find me from here on out… Kronytown will be taking a nap. The Big Can Do…. well… it can do.

Hopefully, this will be everything you’ve wanted in a The Big Can Do… and more.

At least… I will try.
