What a difference a day makes.\u00a0 I have heard that phrase many times in my life.\u00a0\u00a0 Give something a little bit of time\u2026. and it will change.<\/p>\n

This could apply to just about anything.\u00a0\u00a0 Change is inevitable in our lives.\u00a0 Whether it is the weather, or a personal challenge.\u00a0 Perhaps a relationship\u2026..\u00a0 or maybe, even\u2026.. a geographical location.\u00a0 Ahhh.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Location, location, location.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll tell you what.\u00a0\u00a0 Hop on a big boat one day\u2026 get off in another city the next day\u2026 and things change.\u00a0 I say that with…. a great, and sincere emphasis.<\/p>\n

So there we were in magical St. Petersburg yesterday.\u00a0\u00a0 And today, Helsinki.<\/p>\n

On our bus ride from the boat to the town\u2026. a few people said\u2026 \u201cIt will be very hard to top St. Petersburg.\u201d\u00a0 And I responded\u2026. \u201cHelsinki will be every bit as spectacular\u2026 just in its own unique way.\u00a0 It will simply be different.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well\u2026 I was right about it about it being unique, and different.\u00a0 Maybe even spectacular.\u00a0 But not necessarily in a “sparkly…. skip-in-your-step”\u00a0 way.<\/p>\n

We saw a church made of rocks\u2026 sort of. (Okay\u2026. we walked by it twice.\u00a0 THAT was something!)\u00a0 Laurie bought a hand towel…. with big dots on it.\u00a0 We looked at the train station, and we went into a department store.\u00a0 And\u2026 uhhhnnnn\u2026 we uhhhh\u2026 caught an early shuttle back to the boat.<\/p>\n

It was completely different here.\u00a0 The city seemed oppressed to me.\u00a0 It was dark, and the streets were a little dirty.\u00a0 There was construction everywhere.\u00a0 Or maybe just the looks of things being torn apart and put back together again.<\/p>\n

The people seemed nice.\u00a0 But they were slower.\u00a0 There were a lot more people just sitting around.\u00a0 And meandering.\u00a0 Like they were waiting for something\u2026 or anything.<\/p>\n

In St. Petersburg there was a buzz.\u00a0\u00a0 A bustle.\u00a0 A movement everywhere\u2026 and in every direction.\u00a0 In Helsinki\u2026 there was a shuffle.\u00a0 A crawl.\u00a0 Maybe even\u2026 a big unspoken secret.<\/p>\n

Yet. I am glad I came here.\u00a0 I am certain I have not seen \u201cthe spectacular\u201d\u00a0 of this place.\u00a0 But I have a feeling it is here.\u00a0\u00a0 And maybe that is the secret.\u00a0 Maybe the people of this place…. drape the town in a big gray blanket when the cruise ships pull in to port\u2026. with all the frenzied tourists\u2026. scooping up I love Finland trinkets\u2026 with elbows flying and cameras popping.<\/p>\n

And when we leave\u2026 the town can breathe again.\u00a0 And get back to being its own place.\u00a0 Just give something a little bit of time\u2026 and it will certainly change.<\/p>\n
