We people\u2026 can be a big bunch consumers\u2026 it seems.\u00a0 I consume.<\/p>\n

One thing I tend to buy a lot of\u2026.are Apps.\u00a0 I need Apps.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t use to.\u00a0 But dang.\u00a0 Now I do.\u00a0 And when I make these purchases, I depend on the old five-star rating system.\u00a0 I look to see what other people have said about a particular App.\u00a0 Good, Bad, or In-Between.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s put in more practical terms.\u00a0 Product ratings can be quite helpful. The only tricky thing is, we don’t know who’s doing the rating. Take a washing machine for instance. Five stars from \u201cTwinkly on My Toes\u201d in New York. She writes this make of washer take is great for my needs. It does the perfect job.\u00a0 And the next guy.\u00a0 This time he’s from\u00a0 the Bay Area in California.\u00a0 \u201cDashing in San Francisco\u201d writes\u2026.five stars! perfect for what I need.\u00a0 Super duper machine.<\/p>\n

So\u2026 it is a great machine. But wait!\u00a0 The next rating is zero stars. Big Boss in Des Moines say\u2026..This washing machine sucks. It’s the worst\u00a0 I\u2019ve ever seen. It never gets the clothes clean.<\/p>\n

Here’s the thing. What are their needs? We don’t have any way of knowing\u2026 at least not from these reviews.\u00a0\u00a0 How can one minute something get five stars and the next minute zero stars. It just doesn’t make sense.<\/p>\n

My guess is people have different needs. Twinkly in New York? Turns out\u2026..She’s a dang ballerina\u2026\u2026 in the New York City Ballet Company. She only washes her leotard’s. On the delicate cycle. With Woolite. Same thing with the bay guy in San Francisco. He’s a drag queen. He only washes his hose. And a few very fine dresses. Once again.. on the delicate cycle.\u00a0 With Woolite.<\/p>\n

How about Big Boss in Des Moines? She’s a mother of six kids. She uses the heavy duty cycle. She does big humongous loads. The thing breaks on her every other day. Now Big Boss\u2026..She is doing my kind of washing. Zero stars.<\/p>\n

So there you have it.\u00a0 Each person has a different “thing” they need, and when it comes down to it…. they “rate” their experiences based on whether or not their needs were satisfied.<\/p>\n

Consumer Ratings.\u00a0\u00a0 And all of life.\u00a0 Life Ratings.<\/p>\n

Different people.\u00a0 Different needs.\u00a0 Different perspectives.<\/p>\n

Let those stars whirl about in the spin cycle for a while.<\/p>\n
