Wouldn’t you know it?\u00a0 I have all sorts of little “ism’s” about life.\u00a0 You know…. theories… or postulations about how things work.<\/p>\n

A lot of these revolve around the whole “Full Circle” deal. … .. or whatever it is you like to call it.\u00a0 Some people say\u00a0 “Karma” and others say “What goes around, comes around.”\u00a0 How ever you slice it…. the fact of the matter is… you still have bread.<\/p>\n

One of these little quips of mine is called the “Tricky Ricky.”\u00a0 I am pretty sure I’ve told that story here before, but maybe I will revisit it again soon.<\/p>\n

There is one\u00a0 I thought about a whole bunch of times today.\u00a0 It is the Delvin MacGruder.<\/p>\n

You see, Delvin started out much the way any of the rest of us.\u00a0 He came out head first and crying like a baby.\u00a0\u00a0 But something happened with Delvin, and by the time he was about seven years old… he was a pretty mean kid.<\/p>\n

He would bully the others in his class.\u00a0 He would call the kids “stupid” or “worthless.”\u00a0 He would tell them they stunk.<\/p>\n

As a result, Delvin didn’t have too many friends.\u00a0 Like….. Zero.\u00a0 This only made him madder and sadder.\u00a0 He would resent other kids who had fun, and who had a lot of friends.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, this continued.\u00a0 When he was in high school, he had turned into quite a handsome young man.\u00a0 But…. as they say… you can’t judge a book by its cover.\u00a0 He was still pretty lousy to people on the inside.<\/p>\n

A good athlete… in both prep school and college, he would take all the credit.\u00a0 The great catch.\u00a0 The big hit.\u00a0 And on\u00a0 and on.<\/p>\n

He married.\u00a0 Not happily.\u00a0 He was mean to his wife too.\u00a0 They divorced.<\/p>\n

He spent most the rest of his life, working as a janitor.\u00a0 Cleaning up others messes… day in and day out.<\/p>\n

So life went on, and Delvin turned out to be indignant, aggravated, and bitter.<\/p>\n

I met Delvin in a nursing home.\u00a0 He told me all about this.\u00a0 He was alone as alone could be.\u00a0 No visitors.\u00a0 No loved ones.\u00a0 But as I looked around the room, most of the other residents were in the same situation.\u00a0 No visitors.\u00a0 No friends.\u00a0 Yet, I knew for a fact, that so many of the other old people living here were very nice, kind hearted people, who had families.\u00a0 They were loving and thoughtful in their lifetimes.<\/p>\n

So I asked Delvin….\u00a0 “Well, Del.\u00a0 It looks to me like everybody here is in the same boat.\u00a0 No matter what has happened before.\u00a0 So.\u00a0 With that said…. Would you do anything different?”<\/p>\n

He answered very quickly…. “I would be kind.”
\n“Why is that Delvin?”\u00a0 I countered.
\n“At least that way… I could visit good places in my mind….\u00a0 I would have happy memories.\u00a0 And more than anything, I could hold on to that love in my heart.”<\/p>\n

And that…. is the Delvin MacGruder.<\/p>\n
