Well, here I am in Yosemite National Park.\u00a0 And you know me.\u00a0 I just beg to learn the history of the places I visit.\u00a0 I am not sure what this is about me\u2026. but I love to find out what has happened here before me.\u00a0 I like to explore, and consider, and think.<\/p>\n

And as it turns out\u2026. a LOT has happened at Yosemite way before I ever set foot on this place.\u00a0 Before any white people came here, really.\u00a0 Yosemite’s first residents were Native Americans.\u00a0 They started to inhabit this place\u00a0 about 10,000 years ago.\u00a0 That\u2019s right. Ten thousand.<\/p>\n

The Miwok Tribe was sort of the main deal here.\u00a0 They lived here more than 4,000 years\u2026 those old Miwoks.\u00a0 Which reminds me of Ewoks from Star Wars.\u00a0 But, as Yoda would say\u2026. To the story get back.\u00a0 Yes, hmmm.<\/p>\n

They named Yosemite Valley “Ahwahnee” or “place of the gaping mouth.\u201d\u00a0 That is me\u2026 the whole time I am here\u2026.\u00a0 \u201cPolly Big-Old-Gaping-Mouth\u201d for a lot of different reasons.\u00a0\u00a0 The awesome beauty.\u00a0 The power of the mountain-scapes.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The equanimity of the energy in the nature here.\u00a0 And then there are things like those brain-challenged tourists, who try to put their kids on the backs of deer, for a cell-phone-photo.\u00a0 That causes huge gaping-mouth.<\/p>\n

But back to the Native People.\u00a0\u00a0 The Miwok.\u00a0 They called themselves the Ahwahneechee, after the name for this land here, Ahwahnee.<\/p>\n

Yet.\u00a0 They are here no more.\u00a0 Just a bunch of tourists, like me.\u00a0 Staying here at the magnificent Ahwahnee Lodge.<\/p>\n

It goes both ways, doesn’t it? There are really sad, and disappointing parts of history.\u00a0 And then there are positive and uplifting points too.\u00a0 This little corner of the earth, is filled with both.\u00a0 And it makes you feel, and think, and wonder.\u00a0 And today, I thought about this:<\/p>\n

Everything in the Universe lives by cause and effect.\u00a0\u00a0 As you walk through along the paths lined with massive trees, and back-dropped with walls of rock… that reach to the sky.\u00a0 It all has cause and effect.\u00a0 And, that is something to remember, I think.\u00a0 Every action\u2026. all we think, say, and do\u2026. also lives by cause and effect.<\/p>\n

From the very small to the very large.\u00a0\u00a0 Our causes and effects are everywhere.\u00a0 They are lasting.\u00a0 And once again tonight\u2026 I epitomize the Ahwahnee name of \u201cgaping mouth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once again.<\/p>\n
