Whew.\u00a0 Sometimes, the news of the world really makes me sad.<\/p>\n

I just read the newest article about the teenager who was beaten to death, by his own parents, and fellow congregation members at the Word of Life Christian Church, in New Hartford, NY.<\/p>\n

Yep.\u00a0 A kid named Lucas.\u00a0 Nineteen years old.\u00a0 They thought he was practicing witchcraft. So, they started their \u201ccounseling\u201d session on a Sunday evening, and didn\u2019t stop until Monday.\u00a0 When Lucas was dead.<\/p>\n

At the Word of Life Christian Church, in New Hartford, NY.<\/p>\n

Conversely, I am reading a couple of books on spirituality.\u00a0 They both talk of \u201chigher\u201d elevations of energy.<\/p>\n

One book says that we are all the same, connected by one thing, an underlying source of love. That we are all of the same mind. The analogy follows:\u00a0 \u201cJust as the wave can\u2019t separate itself from the ocean, we cannot separate ourselves from one another.\u00a0 We are all a part of this vast sea of love, one indivisible divine mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

And none of this makes a bit of sense to me.<\/p>\n

To read one.\u00a0 And then read the other.<\/p>\n

Maybe I feel too deeply about things. Because tonight, all I can feel is hopelessly sad for all of it.<\/p>\n

There is no part of what happened to that boy\u2026 that seems like love to me.\u00a0 I feel like I HAVE to disconnect myself from that.\u00a0 From them.<\/p>\n

The other book just said to take part in experiment of practicing unconditional love.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019m not sure about that right now either.\u00a0 But just now, as I looked down… Frances was standing right beside me… beaming up at me with her “puppy eyes” from her very old face.\u00a0 She knows what it is.\u00a0 And then there’s me.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure I will ever understand any of this.<\/p>\n

I guess the one thing I know, is that my life is filled with many beautiful abundances.\u00a0 Good things abound.\u00a0 And for those many, many gifts, I am grateful to the spirit of life.<\/p>\n

So I give thanks.<\/p>\n

As for understanding?\u00a0 Maybe I never will.\u00a0\u00a0 And maybe its not for me to understand.<\/p>\n

I guess Pliny the Elder once said: Hope is the pillar that holds up the world. Hope is the dream of a waking man.<\/p>\n

So, with that.\u00a0 I can always hope.<\/p>\n

Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.<\/strong><\/em>
\nDesmond Tutu<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.<\/strong><\/em>
\nMartin Luther King, Jr.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

At the end of the day, we must go forward with hope and not backward by fear and division.<\/strong><\/em>
