A year ago today, I wrote about the hindrances, and risibility of Columbus Day.\u00a0 In my limited opinion.<\/p>\n

But it seems to me, the guy was hired to sail\u2026 to find a shorter passage to India.\u00a0 He screwed that up.<\/p>\n

As you know\u2026 he bumped his boat into a large land mass, which had not only been \u201cdiscovered\u201d\u2026 it had been inhabited and civilized by millions of people.<\/p>\n

The peopling of the Americas\u2026. scholars tend to agree\u2026. happened sometime in the past 25,000 years. And here is what happened (or so those scientists have agreed upon.)\u00a0 A wave of big game hunters crossed into the New World from Siberia at the end of the last ice age, when the Bering Strait was a land bridge.\u00a0 So.\u00a0 A long dang time ago.<\/p>\n

If that isn\u2019t good enough, scientists have found loads and loads of artifacts\u2026. all across the continental United States.\u00a0 For instance, they happened upon a group of very distinctive, exquisitely crafted,\u00a0 projectile points\u2026. called \u201cClovis points\u201d (In New Mexico, in 1929, near a town named Clovis.\u00a0 Hence the name.) With the aid of radiocarbon dating, archaeologists determined that the Clovis sites were 13,500 years old.<\/p>\n

Okay.\u00a0 So.\u00a0 For argument\u2019s sake, let\u2019s just say 14,000 years ago.\u00a0 Those big game hunters\u2026 found this place\u2026. about 13,500 years before Mr. Chris Columbo.<\/p>\n

And by the time he got here, the population of the Americas was in the millions.\u00a0 Research by some scholars provides population estimates\u00a0 to be as high as 112 million in 1492.\u00a0\u00a0 Other scholars put it as low as eight million.\u00a0 Either way\u2026 there were a lot of people already here and getting along just fine.<\/p>\n

Before you know it, those white men were staking claim to this place.\u00a0 That would be sort of like someone who is out riding their 4-Wheeler, and they cross onto your property.\u00a0 Then they say\u2026 \u201cWell, hey\u2026 this is cool.\u00a0 I shall make it mine. So\u2026..\u00a0 They kill you and take your farm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, not only is that bad form\u2026 but years later\u2026 people make a holiday commemorating Bubba, the guy on the 4-Wheeler\u2026 and his stealing of your farm.<\/p>\n

I would wish you a Happy Columbus Day.\u00a0 But.<\/p>\n
