We humans are a curious bunch, don\u2019t you think?\u00a0 We are constantly on the move these days, hustling an bustling.<\/p>\n

I think it all started a long time ago.\u00a0 Yep.\u00a0 It seems like things began moving more quickly when the Industrial Age hit the United States in the early 1800s.\u00a0 That Industrial Revolution, which occurred mostly from 1820 through 1870,\u00a0 was pretty dang important to the economic development of the United States.<\/p>\n

And we never looked back.<\/p>\n

Since that time, we are always searching for ways to make money easier, faster, better\u2026 and for things in general…\u00a0 to be easier, quicker, faster, better.<\/p>\n

So we change it all up.\u00a0 All the time.\u00a0 We ALL do it.
\nHeck, even Disney.\u00a0 Did you know the Seven Dwarves were almost named Chesty, Tubby, Burpy, Deafy, Hickey, Awful and Wheezy.\u00a0\u00a0 If you ask me\u2026 I think Walt dodged a big bullet right there.\u00a0 Good move Walt.\u00a0 Live Hippos at Disneyland?\u00a0 Bad move Walt.<\/p>\n

Wouldn’t you know? Candy companies do it too.\u00a0 Three Musketeers used to contain vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavor.\u00a0\u00a0 Now, it is just fluffy… wholesome… goodness.<\/p>\n

There are times when we try to come up with new and exiting ideas.\u00a0 Which often lead to things other than the intended purpose.\u00a0 Okay\u2026 a good \u201cfor-instance\u201d is\u00a0 the inventors of bubble wrap.\u00a0 They were trying to make plastic wallpaper.\u00a0\u00a0 Obviously…. that idea popped.<\/p>\n

The Slinky was supposed to hold & secure equipment on naval ships.\u00a0 The \u201cdevice\u201d was holding a meter on a table.\u00a0 Due to rocking water, the device fell off the table\u2026 and began walking away.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cThe Slinky, the Slinky\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s another.\u00a0 Imagine a wounded soldier walking around with a Maxi-Pad stuck to his forehead.\u00a0 Well\u2026. as we would have it\u2026 Kotex was supposed to be used for healing and dressing wounds during World War I.\u00a0 And there you have that.\u00a0 You are macho with a head wound, until you stick a Kotex on it.<\/p>\n

But let\u2019s look at another area of our weirdness.<\/p>\n

When places that get hurricanes\u2026 are expecting a hurricane\u2026. the shopping in the area increases significantly.\u00a0 That makes sense really.\u00a0 People getting emergency supplies, water, boards, blankets, etc.<\/p>\n

BUT\u2026 Wal-Mart recently studied their sales reports for this \u201cperiod\u201d of shopping.\u00a0 They found that when\u00a0 a hurricane is expected, Wal-Mart’s top-selling items are strawberry Pop-Tarts and beer.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cEarl, we are ALL set.\u00a0 We got our Strawberry Pop-Tarts and Milwaukee\u2019s Best.\u00a0 Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Probably the most ironic discovery gone another way is this one\u2026.
\nDuring the ninth-century, Chinese alchemists were on a big whopping quest to find an elixir for eternal life.<\/p>\n

They mixed together all sorts of things in an effort to find such a Forever Cocktail.\u00a0 They found out the hard way that mixing salt peter, sulfur, and charcoal is not a recipe for immortality.\u00a0 On the contrary\u2026. it makes gunpowder.\u00a0\u00a0 End of Elixer.\u00a0 End of Test Dummy.<\/p>\n

Seems we have a lot of Test Dummies walking around these days.\u00a0 Most of us really.\u00a0 With every new study, gadget, and major advancement, we are the new lab rats for the swift society.\u00a0 In 100 years, they will look back in utter shock\u2026 and Ahhhhh Noooooo.<\/p>\n
