Today was a big dang day.\u00a0 And tonight, I am worn out.\u00a0 Plain and simple.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It was a day full of visits.\u00a0 Most notably,\u00a0 our two youngest grandsons came over today.\u00a0 All day, from morning until night.\u00a0 Without their parents.\u00a0 Some might call it babysitting\u2026 we are calling it \u201cintense visiting.\u201d<\/p>\n

They are 5 and 8,\u00a0 and apparently, trumped up on caffeine and chocolate during most of their little lives.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know how they are getting it\u2026. they must have a secret source\u2026some dealer, or pusher, somewhere.\u00a0 Because these kids HAVE to be jacked up on caffeine and chocolate.\u00a0 I just know it.<\/p>\n

I mean, for crying out loud.\u00a0 Who can run\u2026. and talk, non-stop, from 9:30 in the morning until 8:30 at night?\u00a0 Besides this five-year-old\u2026. who is pretty holy-crapping good at it.\u00a0 Nonetheless.\u00a0 A wonderful visit from start to finish\u2026 with the exception of the broken chair, three shattered glasses, the big spills on the carpet, and the dog with a newly developed nervous twitch.<\/p>\n

We were also visited by a caterpillar this morning.\u00a0 We watched her crawl for a long time.\u00a0 Then suddenly, she stopped and did not move for quite some time.\u00a0 After several minutes, she went on her way, once more.\u00a0 I think she stopped for a power nap.<\/p>\n

I have also been visiting a couple of cats.\u00a0 They are my friends\u2019 cats, and I simply stop by to make sure they are happy.\u00a0 It is difficult to tell if cats are happy or hacked off.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just call them happy.<\/p>\n

I visited my Mom today too.\u00a0 As I do most days. Her big reveal today, and there always is one, was that she was glad not to be young again. I asked why not?\u00a0 She said she was dumb when she was young.<\/p>\n

Aren\u2019t we all?<\/p>\n

It seems only fitting that there would be an visit of epic proportions tonight.\u00a0 Yes, the shadow of the earth will visit the surface of the moon, and bring us a full eclipse.<\/p>\n

Visiting has a way of wearing you out.<\/p>\n

So tonight, I think my head will visit my pillow.\u00a0 And right now, it is a visit I shall welcome more than anything.<\/p>\n

Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let’s not be afraid to receive each day’s surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy It will open a new place in our hearts, a place where we can welcome new friends and celebrate more fully our shared humanity.<\/strong><\/em>
