There is an age old saying that goes: \u201cGod helps those that help themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, heaven only knows we all need help.\u00a0 With ourselves.\u00a0 And, you don\u2019t have to look around very hard to find it.\u00a0 Everywhere you turn these days, there is some sort of \u201cSelf-Help\u201d advice\u2026 just itching to help YOU stop itching.<\/p>\n

Websites, news feeds, blogs, newscasts, TV shows, podcasts, books, magazines, doctors, psychics, health clubs, and wizards.\u00a0 It is everywhere.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t a new thing.\u00a0 Eons old, in fact.\u00a0 Great Philosophers like Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, and the likes\u2026 were always full of \u201cself help\u201d advice.\u00a0 When I was a kid, I remember finding a copy of \u201cI\u2019m OK, You\u2019re OK\u201d in my Mom\u2019s bedroom drawer.<\/p>\n

Well, I KNOW I shouldn\u2019t have been going through my Mom\u2019s bedroom drawers when I was a kid.\u00a0 It is clear I was misguided as a youth.<\/p>\n

And. Now, it hit me today.\u00a0 Like a load of bricks.\u00a0 I am always seeking some sort of self-help.\u00a0 I don\u2019t do it on purpose.\u00a0 It just seems to happen that way.<\/p>\n

At this point in my life, I am probably more concerned with Spirituality than I ever have been before.\u00a0 Ever.<\/p>\n

I try different things.\u00a0 Meditation and prayer, yoga, nature, quiet time alone, and on and on.\u00a0 There is help out there on ALL these things.\u00a0 In fact, everyday in my email, I get a little letter from every self-help-seeking website at which I\u2019ve ever registered. From Ancient Advice to Meditation Techniques to Zen\u2026 and back again.<\/p>\n

There are WAY too many of these in my inbox each morning.\u00a0 So many, in fact, that I get a bit stressed out about reading all of them.\u00a0 \u201cWhen will I find the time?\u00a0 This\u00a0 one looks especially good\u2026 but I can\u2019t read it right now.\u00a0 I will file it and save it for later.\u00a0 Oh! This is good too.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just skim this one.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Skimming is the worst of all.\u00a0 The message gets terribly jaded.\u00a0 \u201c\u2026..spiritual awakening does not come\u2026. small flashes\u2026..hurt and depression\u2026.we feel guilty\u2026..\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 WHAT?\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ll get small flashes, hurt and depressed\u2026 then spiritual awakening doesn\u2019t come and I will feel guilty???\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 What the HECK kind of HELP is THAT?”<\/em><\/p>\n

And then.\u00a0 Then I start crying, and by the time I am through with my email self-help-email-session\u2026 I\u2019m curled up in the corner, rocking back and forth\u2026 chewing on my hands.\u00a0 Great.\u00a0 Just great.<\/p>\n

The truth of it is, we are all seeking.\u00a0 Seeking something.\u00a0 Some are in search of wealth, or fame, or fortune.\u00a0 Others want cars, or food, or a new big screen TV.\u00a0 Still others\u00a0 are in search of life purpose.\u00a0 Many of us are uncertain about what our life should look like.<\/p>\n

Mostly, we all want to feel more confident, or sure, or convinced\u2026 we want to feel we are on the right track for whatever it is we are doing or seeking.<\/p>\n

But the deal is\u2026 Life is Uncertain.\u00a0 There is no perfect existence.\u00a0 There is no perfect version of ourselves.\u00a0 We are\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 well…\u00a0 …. … human.\u00a0 We make mistakes,\u00a0 we are full of doubts, and hesitations.\u00a0 Every day, we face the unknown.\u00a0 And let’s face it.\u00a0 No one can “have it all.”<\/p>\n

While this might seem a bit daunting, it is simply a part of this life.\u00a0 Our greatest gift… is this beautiful life.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And if we breathe it in\u2026 for just a second\u2026 and look at all the beautiful things right in front of us\u2026 somehow it all feels right.\u00a0 We just need to look around and take notice.\u00a0 And as we look outside of ourselves… we may also notice… that there might be someone who needs OUR help.<\/p>\n

And… I promise to do ALL OF THAT…. right after I get through my in-box, and the rest of these dang Self-Help Emails.<\/p>\n
