Busy.\u00a0 Like a bee.<\/p>\n

Today has been a busy day, to say the very least.\u00a0 I have been completely immersed.\u00a0 In it all.<\/p>\n

As busy as a beaver.
\nAs busy as a one armed paper hanger.
\nAs busy as a one legged man in a butt-kicking contest.<\/p>\n

You get the idea.<\/p>\n

The thing of it is, I truly like to be busy.\u00a0 In fact, I think when I was born\u2026 I popped out of that birthing canal\u2026 and said to the world\u2026 \u201cOkay.\u00a0 Let\u2019s say we get started already!\u201d<\/p>\n

And I haven\u2019t sat down since.<\/p>\n

There is an article out in TIME this week about our human nature to want to be lazy.<\/p>\n

It reports that humans are inherently lazy.\u00a0 They give one explanation which might be the culprit.\u00a0 Apparently, we have a trait left over from our ancestors\u2019 days of conserving energy for the next hunt. Ahhhh.\u00a0 The next hunt.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, a new study published in a journal called Current Biology, discovered that even when we do choose to move\u2026. we do it in such a way that our bodies naturally behave in the most economical way possible.<\/p>\n

Science has already proven that our bodies naturally choose the most efficient way to walk.\u00a0 We go at a speed and step length that limits the number of calories we expend.\u00a0 It goes way deep into the \u201cnervous system monitoring what we do\u201d and blah, blah, blah.<\/p>\n

But it comes down to this:\u00a0 Thor, me hungry.\u00a0 Rest. Hunt. Eat. Rest a lot more.<\/p>\n

Well, I did my fair share of hunting today, and very little resting.\u00a0 Thank you very much Professor.<\/p>\n

And then….. As if those labcoats couldn\u2019t leave well enough alone.\u00a0\u00a0 Researchers at the University of Chicago and Shanghai Jiaotong University enrolled a large number of college students to take part in experiments of the \u201cBusy vs. Not Busy\u201d kind.\u00a0 One group was idle during long periods, and the other group was kept busy.\u00a0 (This is a Reader\u2019s Digest version of the study)<\/p>\n

At any rate\u2026. the group that kept busy showed indications of being \u201chappier\u201d throughout the study.<\/p>\n

So.\u00a0 Staying busy makes us happy.\u00a0\u00a0 Busy and smiling.\u00a0\u00a0 Bzzzzzzz.
\nLazy and resting for the next hunt.\u00a0 Uggghhhh.<\/p>\n

Well. I don\u2019t feel particularly happy tonight.\u00a0 I do feel tired.\u00a0 Like I need to rest for the next hunt.<\/p>\n

And I don\u2019t even hunt.<\/p>\n

Except at Easter time.\u00a0 And then I hunt eggs.
\nI hunt eggs all year long actually.\u00a0 Chicken eggs.<\/p>\n

So what is my point?\u00a0 I bet those researchers are elated that I am NOT one of their test groups.\u00a0 I\u2019d throw the \u201cResults Curve\u201d right out of the Laboratory Window.<\/p>\n

And then I\u2019d run down 23 flights of stairs to go fetch it.\u00a0 And then I’d run back up again…. and then I would….<\/p>\n

Being busy does not always mean real work. The object of all work is production or accomplishment and to either of these ends there must be forethought, system, planning, intelligence, and honest purpose, as well as perspiration. Seeming to do is not doing.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
