I’ve written and re-written this thing ten different times tonight.\u00a0 And I still can’t quite get it right.\u00a0 I’m always afraid I will upset someone.<\/p>\n

So I’ll just put it out there.\u00a0 Imagine my surprise when I saw the third photograph.\u00a0 I’ll tell you why in a moment.<\/p>\n

We all like different activities for a wide number of reasons.\u00a0 That is what makes us “individuals” among many.<\/p>\n

I have a lot of friends who like things from one end of the spectrum to the other.\u00a0 There are some who like to paint, practice meditation, dance.\u00a0 Others like to go hunting, to go shopping, or to go berserk.\u00a0 Some play softball, and others play cards.\u00a0 There are those who like to cook…. or clean… or sew… or build.\u00a0 You see.\u00a0 It goes from A to Z.<\/p>\n

I like a wide range of activities.\u00a0 Some more than others.\u00a0 Drawing, photography, writing… are among my favorites.\u00a0 I like a good game of something too.\u00a0 Fond of nature… yes I am.\u00a0 As long as I can get a hot shower, and a clean, warm bed at the end of the day.<\/p>\n

But there are two things I have never liked… and probably never will.\u00a0\u00a0 One of those is …. ice-cream with chocolate syrup and whipped cream….over waffles.\u00a0 (Bad experience as a kid.)<\/p>\n

And the other is hunting.\u00a0 Now I know folks do it for food.\u00a0 But I still don’t quite like it… for a couple of reasons.\u00a0 (Bad experiences… again.)<\/p>\n

Our neighbors were hunting deer.\u00a0 They say the like the meat and such.\u00a0 That’s fine… if you can end the deer’s life painlessly.\u00a0 Instantly.\u00a0 (I hope they do the same for pigs, and cows, and chickens, when they go to slaughter….\u00a0 although those conditions are far from humane either.)<\/p>\n

But back to the chase and shoot scenario.\u00a0 Our neighbors.\u00a0 They shot a deer this winter and it ran toward our property.\u00a0 They asked if they could come check our acreage for the wounded deer.<\/p>\n

Yes, we said.\u00a0 Find it.\u00a0 Put it out of its misery.\u00a0 But they had no success.\u00a0 They found and followed the blood trail.\u00a0 Mary went with them to try and assist.\u00a0 No deer.<\/p>\n

After the fruitless search…\u00a0 I became upset.\u00a0 All I could think of was the wounded deer … in the thick of this god-forsaken winter.\u00a0 I cried about that deer.\u00a0\u00a0 And worried.<\/p>\n

But guess what happened yesterday … I found her. On the Deer Cam.<\/p>\n

Yep… here, in the third photo down… you can see her front and center.\u00a0 Wounded…. gun shot.. ..\u00a0 but mending.<\/p>\n

So that is one reason I don’t care for hunting.\u00a0 She suffered because someone was a crappy marksman.\u00a0 She had to survive an already horrible winter… with a bunch of buckshot in her.\u00a0 I bet that hurt\u00a0 a LOT.<\/p>\n

Maybe it shouldn’t matter to me.\u00a0 But somehow, I feel a connection to those deer.\u00a0 I feed them.\u00a0 I\u00a0 very sit still and watch them.\u00a0 And.\u00a0 They watch me.<\/p>\n

Hypocrite?\u00a0 Maybe I am.\u00a0 Yep, I had a Roast Beef sandwich for dinner tonight.\u00a0 With Velveeta Cheese of all things.<\/p>\n

But the deal is…the truth is …..I simply don’t know how it all should work.<\/p>\n

One thing IS certain though.\u00a0\u00a0 There will be no waffles with ice cream, chocolate syrup and whipped cream for me.\u00a0 THAT is where I totally put my foot down.\u00a0 For sure.<\/p>\n
