This day was a pretty full one.<\/p>\n

The first thing in order… after chicken duty and such…. was walking in a parade.\u00a0 By 11:00 a.m. we were knee deep in Tootie Rolls, Smarties, kids, dogs, balloons, and wouldn\u2019t you know\u2026. a couple of clowns.<\/p>\n

You see. We attended the Lewisburg Derby Days Parade, walking with the HIT Foundation Float\u2026 an 1930 Antique Ford Truck\u2026 and the Senior Repair Van.<\/p>\n

It was a great parade.\u00a0 Lots of entries.\u00a0 Lots and lots of entries.\u00a0 And also a bountiful crowd along the route.\u00a0 If you have never been to the Lewisburg Derby Days, it is a great community event.\u00a0 Especially the Soap Box Derby and the Car Show.<\/p>\n

Lewisburg seems to have a very strong community presence and awareness.\u00a0 An impressive village here in Preble County.\u00a0\u00a0 It says a great deal about that Village\u2019s leadership and its residents.\u00a0 You can tell they take a lot of pride in their community.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, that is one thing that seems to be lacking in a lot of places these days.\u00a0 Events like the Derby Days are dwindling, mainly because people seem to be losing interest in volunteerism.<\/p>\n

Everybody wants to reap the benefits of a solid community with an abundance of resources.\u00a0 Yet, only a handful of people seem to be the one rolling up their sleeves.<\/p>\n

I wonder what would happen\u2026 if every time we complained about something in our community\u2026 IF perhaps\u2026 we spent that time volunteering for a community program instead.\u00a0 It may just be a couple of hours per month.\u00a0 But if everyone did it\u2026 \u2026 how does that old saying go\u2026.\u2019Many hands make light work.\u2019\u00a0 Oh true to be sure of it.\u00a0 True, true, true.<\/p>\n

It is so very nice, though, to attend an event such as this.\u00a0 It has a way of warming your old-town-heart.\u00a0 You know\u2026 belly-up to the Corn Dog Bar\u2026 and watch the day go by.<\/p>\n
