The capability and potential of the human being is quite amazing.\u00a0 Take into two simple considerations.\u00a0 Human Memory.\u00a0 Human Emotions.\u00a0 Each, by their own right is incredible.\u00a0 Our ability to recall certain events in our mind\u2019s eye\u2026. from different periods throughout our lives.<\/p>\n

And emotions. Love, Joy, Surprise, Anger, Sadness, Fear, Envy, Relief, Longing, Anxiety.<\/p>\n

But the two together, memory and emotions, are like peanut butter and jelly.\u00a0 They go right along with one another.\u00a0 Each one will spark the other.<\/p>\n

Tonight, I was thinking back about 10 1\/2 years ago.\u00a0 It was a frigid cold November night.\u00a0 Unseasonably so.\u00a0 And our furnace went out.\u00a0 And at 1:30 a.m., our newly adopted dog Frances, bumped my hand with her nose as I slept. She told me it was time.<\/p>\n

Time for her puppies to be born.\u00a0 Boy oh boy.\u00a0\u00a0 We were ready too.\u00a0 We had a whelping box we\u2019d been training her with, in another room in the house.\u00a0 But Frances plopped right down there, on the floor in the bedroom, and started cranking out the kids.<\/p>\n

When six little puppies had made their way out\u2026 I turned to Mary and said\u2026 \u201cShe\u2019s not getting any smaller yet.\u201d\u00a0 And those puppies needed heat.\u00a0 Mary was the better maternity nurse.\u00a0 So off I headed to Walmart, at 4 in the morning, to buy heating pads.<\/p>\n

Snow was falling.\u00a0 It was so still and quiet in that parking lot at Walmart.\u00a0\u00a0 I felt completely alone there\u2026yet at the same time\u2026 very surrounded by everything.\u00a0 It was very surreal.<\/p>\n

Upon returning home, two more puppies had arrived.\u00a0 Oh\u2026 But we had a few to go.\u00a0 Thirteen in all.\u00a0 Yet despite the large number and difficulty\u2026.. Frances gave birth in the same manner she does everything.\u00a0 With compliance, and grace, and peace.<\/p>\n

Tonight.\u00a0 My sister told me that one of those Incredible 13\u2026.\u00a0 her boy Dashe\u2026.\u00a0 had died.\u00a0 You see, of the 13 puppies, Dashe was the last of the brood to find a home.\u00a0 Well, he and Eleanor.\u00a0 Nobody wanted him, for some reason.\u00a0 But my sister did.\u00a0 And away he moved to Columbus, with his new family.\u00a0 He turned out to be a completely amazing dog.\u00a0 Like mother, like son.<\/p>\n

He was charming, and funny.\u00a0 Smart and well-mannered.\u00a0 Handsome and athletic.\u00a0 He was dashing.\u00a0 He was Dashe.<\/p>\n

And now that bright, bright spirit, has left his little dog body.\u00a0 My sister is crushed. I am so sad.\u00a0 And I am remembering his first weeks here, on Planet Earth.\u00a0 In to the world he came, and now into the world he goes.\u00a0 In a different time and a different space.<\/p>\n

He goes elsewhere\u2026. from us humans with our amazing capabilities.<\/p>\n

Physically, he leaves.\u00a0 But he stays here now\u2026 forever in our memories, and emotions.\u00a0 In our hearts.\u00a0\u00a0 And we ache because he is gone.\u00a0 And we long for more\u2026\u00a0 \u2026 ..<\/p>\n
