A movie came out a few years back.\u00a0 One of those Samuel L. Jackson is a bad @ss kind of guy.\u00a0 It was called Snakes on a Plane. I never saw the whole thing, but I got the gist from just scanning the channels.<\/p>\n

There were a bunch of snakes.\u00a0 They were on a plane.\u00a0 The plane was in the air.\u00a0 Sam Jackson was on the plane too.\u00a0 Let the games begin.<\/p>\n

But today.\u00a0 I couldn’t help but a LEAST think of the title of the movie.\u00a0 Snakes on a Plane.<\/p>\n

Oh.\u00a0 Snakes come in many shapes and sizes.\u00a0 Today, one just looked like an obnoxious middle-aged blond in jeans two-sizes too small.<\/p>\n

Okay.\u00a0 Here is the scenario in a nutshell.<\/p>\n

We flew today.\u00a0 On a plane.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We were sitting at the front of the plane, along with a half-dozen others.\u00a0 Then, abruptly, and out of nowhere, a woman… with that frizzed-out-kind of blonde hair, jeans too tight, dressed younger-than-what she-actually-was kind of look…. … talking loudly on a cell phone… which was tucked… shoulder to ear….\u00a0 entered our day.<\/p>\n

She had an over-sized suitcase…much larger than the allowable carry on.\u00a0 She was jamming it time and time again into the overhead bin…. directly across the aisle from me.\u00a0 Several people watched… with jaws dropped.\u00a0 Finally she wedged it into the bin… cracking the overhead bin door.\u00a0 But alas…. it still hung out by a good 4 or 5 inches.\u00a0 So she shoved on it harder… and then tried slamming the door on it.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile…. she never missed a syllable of her cell phone conversation.<\/p>\n

Holy crap.\u00a0 I finally said… “Spatially, I can see that just isn’t going to fit.”\u00a0\u00a0 She turned around and glared at me.\u00a0 A thousand-dagger-deaths of a stare.<\/p>\n

At that point, the flight attendant tackled the woman and directed her to another bin.\u00a0 The woman huffed… and bumped into a another passenger.\u00a0\u00a0 As the flight attendant unjammed the bag… and got it down into the aisle for the passenger… she smiled at me.\u00a0 Mary said loudly… “Don’t help her.\u00a0 Make her deal with it herself.”\u00a0 And the guy behind us said… “You didn’t see me jumping up to help her.”<\/p>\n

She was just a terribly self-absorbed person.\u00a0 I was dumbfounded by her lack of awareness of anyone but herself.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 After she cleared the aisle, the 100 or so people which were backed up in the hallway were able to board the plane.<\/p>\n

She made no apologies.\u00a0 She had done no wrong.\u00a0 In fact, it seemed the other way around.\u00a0 It appeared that it was the world… all against her!\u00a0 Again, she glared at those around her.<\/p>\n

I know one thing about all of this.\u00a0 I never, ever, ever want to be like that woman.\u00a0 Not even remotely.\u00a0 And I hope I never have.<\/p>\n

And if I ever act that way, I hope someone… someone who loves me… will say… Polly.\u00a0 You are acting like a snake on a plane.<\/p>\n

I’ve seen the snakes.\u00a0 And I would rather not be one.\u00a0 I am thinking in this case, earlier today….\u00a0 St. Patty drove ’em out of Ireland and into suburbia. On planes.\u00a0 With over-sized suitcases filled with conceit.<\/p>\n
