Forrest Gump\u2019s Mama only had it partially right, in her now-famous quote.\u00a0 And that good old Forrest could recount it at any given moment. \u201cLife is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.\u201d<\/p>\n

And that is true.\u00a0 You never, ever really know what will transpire, from day to day.\u00a0 If we are lucky enough, most days glide from one to the next, without a major upset. Of course, it is a grand thing, if we find ourselves in good fortune on most occasions.<\/p>\n

But that box of chocolates is just like life, in other ways too.\u00a0 On the inside of each one of those pieces, is some great and wonderful surprise.\u00a0 It could be peanut butter creme, or raspberry, or even a nutty almond.\u00a0 But surely enough, there is a treasure inside.\u00a0 All you have to do is take a little time to discover it.<\/p>\n

And so it is with a lot of things in life.\u00a0 Since we are talking about candy, the Tootsie Pop is a prime example.\u00a0 Oh\u2026. when you bite into one of those things to get to the delicious center!\u00a0 But by looking from the outside, you would never know what lies within.<\/p>\n

Oysters.\u00a0 Yep.\u00a0 Now that is one found in nature.\u00a0 You crank one open and there inside is a beautiful milky pearl.\u00a0 And to think it starts from one little grain of sand.\u00a0 That is really something.\u00a0 But you have to open that Oyster to check.<\/p>\n

Another gift of nature\u2026.. the incredible, edible egg.\u00a0 Who knew?\u00a0 I mean really.\u00a0 Seeing an egg from the outside gives no indication that something some amazing would be lurking inside.<\/p>\n

This entire concept transcends our lives.\u00a0 It weaves in and out.\u00a0 What about the little dog or cat\u2026. the one from the shelter or the rescue group?\u00a0\u00a0 On the outside, the dog may seem like a jumpy, barkey, bundle of nerves.\u00a0 Which may be true.\u00a0 Yet, inside that pup is one of the sweetest, sensitive, caring little dogs ever.\u00a0 Or perhaps smart as a whip, or funny, or maybe ever all of the above.<\/p>\n

Another example which becomes more and more apparent to me\u2026 is people.\u00a0 There are certain individuals in our lives\u2026.. and we think they may be this way, or that.\u00a0 And then suddenly, out of the clear blue sky, they do something great, or valiant, of spectacular.\u00a0\u00a0 It might take us by surprise, but I for one, am always delighted when it happens.<\/p>\n

Surprises my be one of life\u2019s greatest gifts, I think. But to get the gift, you have to unwrap.<\/p>\n

And so it goes.\u00a0 We just may need to take a little time, to find out what it inside.\u00a0 What truly lies beneath.\u00a0 And once we do, we find that\u00a0 surprise is a most wonderful gift.<\/p>\n
