If you were a marijuana smoker, and you wanted to buy some Hashish \u2026 you might find yourself in a Pot Store.\u00a0 In which case you would want to know the prices.\u00a0 You would probably look at the Hash-Tag.<\/p>\n

Or, let\u2019s say you LOVE Corned Beef all fried up with potatoes.\u00a0 And you love games like \u201cYou\u2019re IT!\u201d\u2026 and such.\u00a0 You may find yourself combining the two\u2026 like a big game of Hash-Tag.<\/p>\n

Forget all that.\u00a0 I am feeling a little bit like the Pied Piper.\u00a0 And a tiny bit like The Yellow Brick Road.\u00a0 You can \u201cFollow Me @_yellowpiedroadpiper.<\/p>\n

Hash Tags.\u00a0 They are every where.\u00a0 I don\u2019t want my life defined by the hash tag.\u00a0 I\u2019ll tell you that much right now.\u00a0 And I am not sure I want to be followed\u2026. like I have stalkers.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t want to be known as @_pollyk either.\u00a0 #are-you-following-me.<\/p>\n

That is the thing though.\u00a0 I love technology and all that it affords us.\u00a0 But I totally get tired of some of the trends.\u00a0 #over it.<\/p>\n

And, while we are on it.\u00a0 When did it become the Hash Tag?\u00a0 I wonder.\u00a0 To me, it has always been the pound sign, or the numbers symbol.\u00a0 I guess saying\u2026 \u201cFollow me @pollywollydoodle hashtag<\/em> up-in-arms-pollyis a LOT cooler than saying\u2026. pound sign<\/em>\u00a0 #up-in-arms-polly.<\/p>\n

The technical term for a hashtag is \u201coctothorp,\u201d according to the Oxford English Dictionary; octo, in reference to the eight points in the figure, and Thorpe, OED says cryptically, from \u201cthe surname Thorpe\u2026 perhaps even Olympian Jim Thorpe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Or it takes a village\u2026.. In cartography, the octothorp is a traditional symbol for village.\u00a0 And here is how it goes.\u00a0 Eight fields around a central square. That is the source of its name. Octothorp means eight fields.”<\/p>\n

(From octo- (\u201ceight\u201d) and thorpe (\u201cfield or small village\u201d).\u00a0 Are you following me here?\u00a0 If not\u2026 you can always Hashtag THAT\u2026\u2026.\u00a0 #octothorpe.<\/p>\n

As I mentioned, I say all of this with a push me \/ pull me attitude.\u00a0 I love the world of Geekdom.\u00a0 I truly think many of these technological advances, are just that.\u00a0 Advances.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, certain parts of it bug me.\u00a0 Like all the acronyms instead of actual language.\u00a0 IDK it bothers me.\u00a0 LOL.\u00a0 I mean\u2026 it REALLY shouldn\u2019t bother me so much because\u00a0 \u2026 I use those acronyms sometimes.<\/p>\n

I guess, as with so many different things in life, there are two sides to every coin.\u00a0 There are positives and negatives, to almost any situation you consider.\u00a0 Sometimes, it just depends which side of the table you are sitting.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it is best to get as much as we can from the positive aspects, and try to leave the negative behind.\u00a0 Think in the upside of things\u2026 and let go of the down turns.\u00a0 As\u2026 @Monty_Python so aptly said\u2026 #always look on the bright side of life.\u00a0 That is advice I WILL try to follow.<\/p>\n
