Oh, it is called by many different names, it is.\u00a0 Sensitive. Over-sensitive.\u00a0 Thin-skinned.\u00a0 Delicate.\u00a0 Easily hurt.<\/p>\n

Which brings me to\u2026.. Like.<\/p>\n

In my case, “the need to be liked.”\u00a0 This is something very true about me.\u00a0 I like to be liked.\u00a0 Maybe that\u2019s why I get along so well with dogs and little kids.\u00a0\u00a0 But, I can tell\u2026 pretty much right away\u2026. when someone doesn\u2019t like me.\u00a0 In that way I am hypersensitive.\u00a0 And then I let it bug the heck out of me.<\/p>\n

I can tell by their body language, the look on their faces\u2026 or lack there of.\u00a0 I can tell by the tone in their voices…. the sketchy eye contact. \u00a0 I rarely get this one wrong.<\/p>\n

Today\u2026 I ran into this a few times.\u00a0 As I mentioned earlier, it affects me pretty deeply.<\/p>\n

I have heard some people say that they don\u2019t care one way of the other\u2026\u00a0 if someone likes them..\u00a0 or NOT.\u00a0 Whew.\u00a0 I just don\u2019t know how that could ever be possible for me.\u00a0 It is completely out of my realm of understanding or capability.<\/p>\n

Try as I may to NOT let it bother me… it has a way of bothering me.\u00a0 Like a fly on a horses rump.<\/p>\n

And in that analogy\u2026 I would be the horse\u2019s ass.<\/p>\n

Intellectually, I get this.\u00a0 It shouldn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 Just treat people kindly, and it is up to them how it is received.\u00a0 Yep.\u00a0 I\u2019ve read the Self-Help Jargon on all of this.\u00a0 But.\u00a0 That is like telling a jar of cream puff marshmallow topping\u2026 not to be sticky.\u00a0 It is sticky.\u00a0 No way around it.<\/p>\n

I guess I can garner one positive aspect of this.\u00a0 That affliction of sensitivity is a part of my personality.\u00a0 Perhaps, though, it is a quality.\u00a0 There are times, I think, when we need to be sensitive, and delicate\u2026.. and even vulnerable.\u00a0 It is a piece of being human.\u00a0\u00a0 Just like marshmallow topping needs to be sticky.\u00a0 And like Donald Trump needs that Furby on his head.<\/p>\n

That sensitivity may lend itself to compassion.\u00a0 And in that way.. it is a positive attribute.\u00a0 We should try to find grace in our ability to act with love, tolerance, kindness, and tenderness.\u00a0 (Okay\u2026 so I slipped with the Donald Trump comment.)<\/p>\n

So.\u00a0 I will try to work on being compassionate\u2026..\u00a0 with those who don\u2019t like me.\u00a0 I just wish my feelings didn\u2019t get hurt so easily.\u00a0 I wish things didn\u2019t stick to me like marshmallow goo.<\/p>\n
