The Highest."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/marychikcen.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3987\" src=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/marychikcen.jpg\" alt=\"marychikcen\" width=\"700\" height=\"933\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/marychikcen.jpg 700w, https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/marychikcen-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/chickenstand.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3986\" src=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/chickenstand.jpg\" alt=\"chickenstand\" width=\"700\" height=\"736\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/chickenstand.jpg 700w, https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/chickenstand-285x300.jpg 285w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/daisywaisy1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3988\" src=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/daisywaisy1.jpg\" alt=\"daisywaisy\" width=\"700\" height=\"508\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/daisywaisy1.jpg 700w, https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/06\/daisywaisy1-300x218.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday marked the start of Summer.\u00a0\u00a0 I normally don\u2019t miss such a monumental event.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I knew the Summer Solstice was yesterday.\u00a0 But I forgot to write about it.\u00a0\u00a0 You see\u2026 it is by far\u2026 my very favorite of the seasonal phases.<\/p>\n<p>A solstice happens twice each year\u2026when the sun reaches its highest or lowest point in the sky at noon, marked by the longest and shortest days.<\/p>\n<p>And an equinox also happens two times a year\u2026 the time or date\u00a0 at which the sun crosses the celestial equator.\u00a0 This means the day and night are of equal length (mostly).<\/p>\n<p>I like the Summer Solstice the very, very most \u2026 because it means it will probably by hot.\u00a0 And I love to be warm.\u00a0 I also like the memories it awakens in my mind.<\/p>\n<p>The Summer has a way of thrusting me back in time, hurtling my senses through past years\u2026. and back to the sweet memories of youth.<\/p>\n<p>Things like eating watermelon in the back yard, handed to us on cheap paper plates.\u00a0 And then the seed-spitting contests which ensued.\u00a0 It reminds me of playing \u201cPickle\u201d in the middle of Bruce Avenue, until the street lights came on.<\/p>\n<p>Things like swimming at the local pool, and having frozen candy bars for treats at the Concession Stand\u2026 when we had to sit out for those grueling 15 minutes of every hour\u2026 during the \u201cAdult Swim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Summer reminds me of hots dogs roasted on our rickety-old backyard grill, with the old-school charcoal briquets.\u00a0 Hot dogs with both ketchup and mustard, served on a Wonder Bun.\u00a0 Always\u2026 smelling a bit like lighter fluid.<\/p>\n<p>Laying in the cool grass, and watching the sky as elephants, and cotton candy, and fluffy bunnies rolled by in the clouds.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, the times, they were.<\/p>\n<p>Tonight, we sat out with our Orpington Chickens\u2026. as good Farm Girls do.\u00a0\u00a0 We simply spent time with those chickens\u2026and watched.\u00a0\u00a0 They sat on Mary\u2019s lap, and I talked good Chicken-Speak with them.\u00a0 Tommy ran after me as I was walking out\u2026 like he was sad to see me go.\u00a0 We notice Chuck has feathers on his legs\u2026 like hairy legs. Funny Chuck.<\/p>\n<p>And as they scratched about\u2026 and did their little versions of The Moon Walk\u2026 I sang the melody of The Chicken Dance.<\/p>\n<p>And somehow\u2026 all of this propelled me back to my early youth\u2026 and finding little joys in the warmth of summer.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sleuthing for four-leaf-clovers, slurping popsicles on the front porch steps,\u00a0 sitting very still and listening to the sound of dusk.\u00a0 The beauties of summer.\u00a0 How I wish they were with me the whole year through.<\/p>\n<div class=\"copy-paste-block\"><em><em><em><strong><span class=\"bqQuoteLink\">Life is divided into three terms &#8211; that which was, which is, and which will be.
