Well.\u00a0 Well, well.\u00a0 That Johann Wolfgang Goethe was a wise fella…. and said some big things.\u00a0 Like…“<\/strong><\/em>A person hears only what they understand.”<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 Oh how true.\u00a0 I wonder how many people will hear this next one…. AGAIN?\u00a0 Maybe you should grab some breakfast… before you did in to all of this.

First… here is something to chew on while you are enjoying a bowl of Rice Krispies this morning.\u00a0 A group of international researchers claim that the Earth is entering a sixth mass extinction.\u00a0 How\u2019s that for snap, crackle and pop.<\/p>\n

Okay.\u00a0 Forget the Rice Krispies.\u00a0 Have your English Muffin.\u00a0 The research report goes on to say\u2026.that the demise of its species is about 100 times faster than the average rate of previous extinctions.\u00a0 Whoops.\u00a0 Toast.<\/p>\n

Better put some butter on that toast\u2026 because that is what we are\u2026.<\/p>\n

The major drivers of the sixth mass extinction are mainly triggered by human touch: land farming, logging and settlement, introduction of invasive species, increased carbon emissions and man-made toxins.<\/p>\n

It appears we humans are a messy bunch, wouldn\u2019t you say?<\/p>\n

The Study was conducted by Paul Ehrlich, the Bing Professor of Population Studies in biology and a senior fellow at the Stanford\u00a0 Woods Institute for the Environment\u2026 and colleagues, of course. I guess this is a pretty big environmental entity, founded by the Woods\u2019 Family at Stanford.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know what the heck a Bing Professor is though.\u00a0 The only Bings I know are Bing Cherry, Bing Crosby, and Bahda-Bing-Bahda-Boo.<\/p>\n

ANYWAY.\u00a0 According to Ehrilich and his gang of merry men\u2026.\u00a0\u00a0 to date, 41 percent of amphibian species and 26 percent of mammals are on the list of threatened and endangered species.\u00a0\u00a0 Pass the bacon.\u00a0 And the frog legs.\u00a0 That\u2019s a lot.<\/p>\n

Even if you combine the number of species lost from earlier mass extinctions, which includes up to 280 species, the current period is still way above that number. Earth lost 396 species between 1900 and 2010, according to the International Union of Conservation of Nature.<\/p>\n

Again, I say.\u00a0 That\u2019s a lot.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t really have an end point, or a story, about any of this.\u00a0 I just keep thinking back to the profound words of wisdom given to us by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe\u2026. in which he said\u2026. \u201cLet everyone sweep in front of his own door, and the whole world will be clean.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Smart guy.\u00a0 Extinct now.\u00a0 But back in his day\u2026 I\u2019ll tell you.\u00a0 AND.. .he was RIGHT.\u00a0 All we had to do\u2026 us humans\u2026.. is clean up after ourselves.<\/p>\n

I can only hope we smarten up\u2026 and start doing this now.\u00a0 Everyone.\u00a0 Each and everyday.\u00a0 I only hope it isn\u2019t too late to start.\u00a0\u00a0 All I know is that it can\u2019t hurt.<\/p>\n
