There are a lot of phrases out there.\u00a0 And proverbs.\u00a0 Meanings to try to make sense of this life.<\/p>\n

Chances are\u2026. you\u2019ve heard a truck load of them\u2026 in your day.<\/p>\n

Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
\nAll that glitters is not gold.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t change horses midstream.
\nDon\u2019t count your chickens before they are hatched.
\nDon\u2019t cut your nose off to spite your face.
\nGood things come to those who wait.<\/p>\n

In most every case\u2026 we either agree or disagree.
\nFirst up.
\nBirds of a feather flock together.\u00a0 Yes or No?<\/p>\n

I tend to agree with this one.\u00a0 In general terms.\u00a0 I think a lot of times, people with a certain set of religious, or spiritual convictions tend to flock one another.\u00a0 Same with politics.\u00a0 Yet, I have some friends with completely different views on these things than I.\u00a0 Generally, in those cases though\u2026 they have much more to offer.\u00a0 Like\u2026 boy oh boy\u2026 can they cook!\u00a0 Or they have season tickets to the Steelers Games.\u00a0 You know.<\/p>\n

Okay\u2026. what about this one.
\nIf it ain\u2019t broke, don\u2019t fix it.<\/p>\n

Again, in a broad sense \u2026 I think this one is good.\u00a0 Yet.\u00a0 There are times when something has been working the same way for 100 years.\u00a0 But it may not be working at its best.\u00a0 Small communities are classic for this.\u00a0 The phrase\u2026 \u201cBut we\u2019ve ALWAYS done it this way.\u201d\u00a0 This way of thinking tends to stunt progress.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 However\u2026 in certain cases\u2026 like your washer and dryer.\u00a0 Or your wall clock.\u00a0 If it ain\u2019t broke\u2026\u00a0 leave well enough alone.<\/p>\n

In the kingdom of the blind the one eyed man is king
\nNecessity is the mother of invention

\nThe grass is always greener on the other side of the fence<\/p>\n

\u2026. and on and on they go.\u00a0 Most of them are clever and have a meaning that we can take away.\u00a0 Whether we agree or not\u2026 is an entirely different matter.\u00a0 For instance\u2026 \u201cAn eye for an eye.\u00a0 A tooth for a tooth.\u201d\u00a0 If we follow this one\u2026 everyone is blind and can\u2019t chew solids.<\/p>\n

The one that hit me today was this.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is neither here nor there.\u201d<\/p>\n

I mean\u2026. for crying out loud\u2026 sometimes these things make\u00a0 absolutely no sense\u2026. whatsoever.\u00a0 If something is neither here\u2026 nor there\u2026. then where in the holy-heck-a-moonie is it?<\/p>\n

Oh\u2026 I am thinking it HAS to be somewhere.\u00a0 I looked up the origin.\u00a0 Apparently, in first appeared in the 1500s.\u00a0\u00a0 It was first recorded by a dude named Arthur Golding.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He wrote a translation of \u201cThe sermons of J. Calvin upon Deuteronomie\u201d<\/p>\n

That certainly clears things up\u2026. like mud.<\/p>\n

Which brings me to this\u2026<\/p>\n

Two wrongs don’t make a right
\nThere’s safety in numbers
\nVariety is the spice of life
\nThe opera ain’t over till the fat lady sings
\nWhen the going gets tough, the tough get going.<\/p>\n

If phrases were horses\u2026we\u2019d get down to brass tacks\u2026. and we\u2019d take the cake.<\/p>\n

and that my friends is neither here, nor there.<\/p>\n
