Today was the Fourth of July.\u00a0 At least in our heads.<\/p>\n

Every year we have a Fourth of July Party for our friends of softball.\u00a0 I don\u2019t really like to say it that way.\u00a0 But that is how the big party started.\u00a0 The Ohio Cardinals\u2026. the softball players\u2026 not the State Bird\u2026.. would converge on our place for the big hooo-ha.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ve been doing this for a lot of years.\u00a0 This year, for a number of reasons, we had to have it a little early.\u00a0 And.\u00a0 Of course, the attendees vary from year to year.\u00a0 But no matter.<\/p>\n

What a bunch of fun.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t do the normal fireworks display that we usually put on.\u00a0\u00a0 And that doesn\u2019t really break my heart any\u2026 as fireworks scare the chicken feathers out of me.<\/p>\n

Anyway.\u00a0 We had fun.\u00a0 Jollification.\u00a0 Mirth, laughter, and glee.\u00a0 With just a dash of merriment mixed in.\u00a0\u00a0 We swam.\u00a0 We chatted.\u00a0 We ate and ate and ate.\u00a0\u00a0 We drank beverages of varying intensity.\u00a0 From water to fire water.\u00a0 We played.\u00a0 We sang.\u00a0 There were introductions to the Chicken Family.\u00a0\u00a0 We spent really good time together.<\/p>\n

Near the end of the evening, we played Gestures.\u00a0 My team won.\u00a0 Why is this important, you ask?\u00a0 Because \u2026. you can take the girl out of the game\u2026 but you can\u2019t take the game out of the girl.\u00a0 If I am playing, my competitive-hat goes on\u2026 whether I intend it to, or not.<\/p>\n

One of our friends from afar\u2026 who could not fly in from California\u2026 suggested that we play Human Foosball\u2026as seen on You Tube and Face Book.\u00a0\u00a0 We did not have time to construct such an apparatus\u2026 which may have turned out to be a blessing.\u00a0\u00a0 You see, not only am I competitive\u2026 but so is every other dame at this party.\u00a0 I think there may have been injuries had we acted like the little spinning plastic men.<\/p>\n

And… since we dodged a bullet with the Fireworks… no sense in putting ourselves in harm’s way on a life-size-foosball-table.<\/p>\n

All of this aside\u2026 the main point is\u2026 Friends.\u00a0 It is so very nice to be in each other\u2019s company, sharing in conversation, recreation, and levity.\u00a0 And of course.. good treats.\u00a0\u00a0 One thing about those really good friends\u2026 apart from all the fun\u2026 is that you know you can count on them.\u00a0 We mutually choose one another.\u00a0 We have good taste\u2026 after all.\u00a0 Even if we are delusional about what day and month it is.<\/p>\n

I am thankful for my friends.\u00a0 And for all they are willing to share with me in life.\u00a0 It is yet another thing, about this world of ours, that there is to love.\u00a0 Love for living.\u00a0 Love for life.<\/p>\n
