\"littlelamb\"<\/a>Well.\u00a0 This is a big day for farmers everywhere.\u00a0 You see\u2026 it was on this day\u2026 May 24th\u2026 in the year 1830\u2026. that the song Mary Had A Little Lamb was published.<\/p>\n

It started out\u2026 really\u2026 as a nursery rhyme.\u00a0\u00a0 And, little did we know\u2026 this fleece who\u2019s white as snow\u2026. was inspired by an actual incident.<\/p>\n

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this poem was based on a true story.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the deal.\u00a0\u00a0 Apparently, there was a young girl, Mary Sawyer kept a pet lamb.\u00a0 No spoiler alert here.<\/p>\n

Her big brother suggested she take it to school with her.\u00a0 You KNOW how big brothers can be.\u00a0 Always tell you to do things\u2026. which later you will completely regret.\u00a0 Like spreading motor oil all over the basement floor\u2026 for slicker roller skating.\u00a0 But I digress.<\/p>\n

So\u2026 this \u201cthick as a brick\u201d kid named Mary\u2026 pulls her lamb to school\u2026 kicking and dragging.\u00a0 I mean\u2026 humans don\u2019t want to go to school at that age\u2026 let alone\u2026 little lambs\u2026 who\u2019s fleece is white as snow.<\/p>\n

And wouldn\u2019t you know it\u2026 a\u00a0 commotion naturally ensued.\u00a0\u00a0 Yep.\u00a0 Like the kids all freaked out up and down\u2026\u00a0 and the teacher threw apples and such\u2026.\u00a0\u00a0 ANYWAY\u2026.<\/p>\n

But also on that day\u2026 the school had another visitor.\u00a0 This young man\u2019s name was\u00a0 John Roulstone.\u00a0\u00a0 He was a nephew of the Reverend Lemuel Capen\u2026 and to prepare for college\u2026 young people often studied with ministers.\u00a0 Lucky for John\u2026 his uncle Lemuel WAS a minister.<\/p>\n

Oh this goes on.\u00a0 So John thought the whole Little Lamb thing was pretty funny.\u00a0 As a result\u2026 the dude rode across the fields on horseback to the little old schoolhouse the next day.\u00a0 And he gave Little Mary Sawyer a slip of paper which had written upon it the three original stanzas of the poem.\u00a0 Several years later, American author Sarah Hale was given credit for finishing the poem.<\/p>\n

Two more tidbits about this story.\u00a0\u00a0 The first. Mary Sawyer’s house, located in Sterling, Massachusetts, was destroyed by arson on August 12, 2007.\u00a0 Now\u2026 this indicates to me that perhaps the arsonist has a strong dislike for the nursery rhyme.\u00a0 Probably due to some childhood traumatic experience, with fleece, or snow, or lambs in general.<\/p>\n

And the second.\u00a0 The rhyme is also famous for being the very first thing recorded by Thomas Edison on his newly invented phonograph in 1877.\u00a0 AND\u2026.It was the first instance of recorded verse.\u00a0 This indicates to me that Edison has a strong liking for the poem, probably due to some terrific childhood experience with fleece, or snow\u2026 or lambs in general.<\/p>\n

And there you have it.\u00a0 We just never know how are actions might affect others.\u00a0\u00a0 It may cause one person to become a serial arsonist\u2026 and another to become a gifted inventor.<\/p>\n

Which then leads to this.\u00a0\u00a0 Bo Peep\u2026 who constantly lost her sheep\u2026. inspired no one.\u00a0 No one at all.<\/p>\n

Therefore\u2026 always\u2026 ALWAYS\u2026. count your chickens.\u00a0 Even if you do it before they are hatched.<\/p>\n
