Today\u2019s big excursion started bright and early before the crack of dawn.\u00a0 Yes, I was up before the roosters.\u00a0 I could not contain the excitement.\u00a0 A Chicken Show was on the horizon, and I was ready.<\/p>\n

We started at The Eaton Place for breakfast. Of course, I had my standard fare of chicken eggs\u2026. 3 of them this morning.\u00a0 However, this seemed somewhat muddled and conflicted\u2026 given the day ahead.\u00a0 But those eggs were OH-SO-GOOD.<\/p>\n

Then, Northward Bound we traveled.\u00a0 We drove through the rain, up to the Darke County Fairgrounds. It was quite busy there.\u00a0 Yet, our exploratory skills took us right to the Chicken Show.\u00a0 As we approached the building\u2026 I said to Mary\u2026 \u201cOh my holy-heck.\u00a0 It sounds like someone is murdering those chickens in there.\u201d\u00a0 She laughed at my naivety.\u00a0 \u201cSome of them can be quite vocal,\u201d she suggested.<\/p>\n

So, in the building we went.\u00a0 And, no, no, no.\u00a0 They were not being murdered at all.\u00a0 They were simply conversing. Like Chickens Do.\u00a0 I found the instigator of the whole deal, I think.\u00a0 It was a large Chinese Goose in the very first row.\u00a0 Apparently, he had learned one English word\u2026 and repeated it incessantly.\u00a0 \u201cWhat…..\u00a0 What…..\u00a0 What….. What.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well\u2026 just ask any old chicken the question \u201cWhat?\u201d and she will surely tell you.\u00a0 At length.<\/p>\n

At any rate, we had a blast, meeting all the chickens, (and ducks, and geese, and such.)\u00a0 It was more of fowl show, than just a chicken show.<\/p>\n

But I can tell you quite assuredly, I am now a PROUD Member of the American Poultry Association.\u00a0 Dues paid. Card in hand.<\/p>\n

I nearly bought a scruffy little chicken. which I had already named Phyllis, but I was dissuaded.\u00a0\u00a0 As the morning passed, I was enthralled with all these lovely creatures\u2026 except for the guinea chickens.\u00a0 Not so crazy for them.<\/p>\n

The best part\u2026 was that a few of them actually laid eggs\u2026 RIGHT before my EYES.\u00a0 Imagine my glee, and jubilation.\u00a0 I jumped for joy.\u00a0 Now. This would be akin to seeing Ronald McDonald in a cage, and witnessing a Big Mac appear\u00a0mysteriously from his underside. …. on a sesame seed bun….<\/p>\n

How could the day have been any better?\u00a0 We\u2019ll I will tell.\u00a0 The next stop was The Dog Show, at the Preble County Fairgrounds.<\/p>\n

Chickens AND dogs in ONE day.<\/p>\n

But at the dog show, I had a tremendous interaction with a Champion Golden Retriever named Dillon.\u00a0 We sat and talked for as long as his handler would allow us.\u00a0 He was truly Golden.<\/p>\n

I can only say that this was better than Christmas, fresh baked chocolate chips cookies, and sandy beaches\u2026 all rolled into one.<\/p>\n

Much more excitement, and I would have peed.\u00a0 In fact I am pretty worn out from all of this.\u00a0 So I have to make like a chicken\u2026 and get the cluck out of here.<\/p>\n
