It is not easy being green.\u00a0 At least, that is what Kermit the Frog said.\u00a0 In fact, he sang about it.\u00a0 When you think about it, though\u2026 some days it isn\u2019t easy to be you.\u00a0 Some days it isn\u2019t easy to be me either.<\/p>\n

But here we are… and here it is Spring.\u00a0 Things all around us are turning green.\u00a0 I wonder if it easy or hard for them?\u00a0 Everywhere I looked today \u2026 I could see green.\u00a0 The grass is growing, some fields are sprouting, leaves are coming on trees, algae is beginning to grow in the pond.\u00a0 Green.<\/p>\n

However, I must tell you, there is a lot to this color\u2026 green.<\/p>\n

The color green signifies nature, life, youth, safety and hope\u2026 in the psychology of colors. Or so the lab coats say.<\/p>\n

But it is not our favorite color here in the U.S.\u00a0 That goes to Blue.\u00a0 Green comes in a close second.\u00a0 I like them both.\u00a0 But I like orange, and purple, and red.\u00a0 Yellow\u2019s not so bad either.<\/p>\n

We all know that green represents \u2018go\u2019 in traffic signals, railway signals and ship signals. Well\u2026 MOST people know about this.\u00a0 There are a bunch of dudes in hats\u2026. driving cars…..\u00a0 that sit for a long time at green lights\u2026 until prompted by a horn.<\/p>\n

Green is the color used for night vision goggles.\u00a0 That is\u00a0 because the human eye is most sensitive to the color green and we are able to distinguish a bunch of shade variations in green.\u00a0 Think about THAT tonight while you are out slinking around with your goggles on.<\/p>\n

The color green is often used as a symbol of sickness.\u00a0 Mostly in cartoons, and such.\u00a0 Characters often have a green face when being sick.\u00a0 And puffed out cheeks.<\/p>\n

Speaking of sickness\u2026 how about the \u201cmorning\u201d variety of sickness?\u00a0\u00a0 Green has long been a symbol of fertility, and was once the preferred color choice for wedding gowns during the 1400\u2019s.<\/p>\n

And more Historical Green.\u00a0 I\u2019ve seen the pictures, but I don\u2019t remember this.\u00a0 Before the 1950\u2019s Santa\u2019s suit was originally green.\u00a0 That is\u2026. until Coca-Cola bought him out\u2026. and changed his suit to red.\u00a0 That\u2019s because it is not easy being green\u2026 and Santa needs a Coke, and a smile.<\/p>\n

And don\u2019t forget the other sorts of green things\u2026 like peas, money, hoses, jade, ferns, envy,\u00a0 broccoli, geckos, moss, tennis balls, shamrocks, emeralds, seaweed, cucumbers,\u2026.. oh\u2026. and\u2026. frogs.<\/p>\n

Which brings me back to Kermit.\u00a0 Smart frog.\u00a0 You know, he starts out all downtrodden about being green, but three verses later\u2026 he is singing a different tune.\u00a0 In fact\u2026 \u201cWhy Wonder, I am green and it’ll do fine, it’s beautiful!\u00a0 And I think it’s what I want to be.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

So on those days\u2026 when it doesn\u2019t feel so \u201ceasy\u201d to be us\u2026. perhaps all we need to do, is take the time to sing a little song\u2026 and three verses later\u2026 we may be thinking that WE \u201care beautiful\u201d\u2026.<\/p>\n

\u2026. which \u2026 in fact\u2026.\u00a0 we ARE.\u00a0 And we\u2019ll do just fine.\u00a0 We are exactly who we weren\u2019t meant to be.\u00a0 Like the smart green frog.<\/p>\n

It is not easy to find happiness in ourselves, and it is not possible to find it elsewhere.\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0 Agnes Repplier<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
