There are caboodle’s of movies which I love.\u00a0 I have all sorts of favorites, in different genres, all across the board.<\/p>\n

But one that is heavy on my mind this evening is a long time favorite of mine.\u00a0 It came out in\u00a0 1979 and starred none other than… Steve Martin.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0\u00a0 The classic tale is The Jerk.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

“Someone hates those cans.\u00a0 Stay away from the cans.”<\/em><\/p>\n

At any rate, Martin plays Navin.\u00a0 He is a bit thick in the head.\u00a0 Pea soup thick.\u00a0 And very naive.\u00a0 As luck would have it….\u00a0 people exploit his gullibility.\u00a0\u00a0 Left and right.\u00a0 But Navin presses on.<\/p>\n

The movie is goofy to the core.\u00a0\u00a0 But there are some really good messages within.\u00a0 His mother, a lovely and jubilant black woman,\u00a0 tells him from early childhood that everyone has a “Special Purpose.”\u00a0\u00a0 Navin finds his special purpose in life… or THINKS he does….. .\u00a0 And…. it turns out to be a bit convoluted and hilarious.<\/p>\n

But the point of all of this IS…. I believe Navin’s Mom was right.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I too, think everyone has a Special Purpose in Life.<\/p>\n

That is what I believe.<\/p>\n

I am not sure if it is true… or how it works, exactly.\u00a0 But… if I were writing the rules… we all would certainly have one.<\/p>\n

It may not be heroic by society’s standards, or filled with money or fame…. but it would be there.\u00a0 Everyone from World Dignitaries, to Well Diggers…. from Millionaire Financiers, to Menders of Fences….. Everyone would have a special purpose.\u00a0\u00a0 And maybe we do.<\/p>\n

I don’t think it has much to do with what we do for a living…. but I think it has EVERYTHING to do with… WHAT WE DO FOR LIFE.\u00a0 Be it our life, or the lives of others.\u00a0 It is the choices we make each day to make this world a better place…<\/p>\n

And if we aren’t making those good choices each day… maybe we haven’t found our old SP.<\/p>\n

And as Navin Johnson would say…. “Those are defective cans.”<\/em><\/p>\n
