Nearly 20 years ago, Mary and I were driving down the coast of California.\u00a0 We stopped at a Mexican Restaurant for a repast.\u00a0 Mary order Baileys with her coffee.\u00a0 After a short discussion with the waiter, he came back to the table and produced a cup of black coffee, with a plate full of bay leaves on the side.<\/p>\n

Clearly the order had been misconstrued.<\/p>\n

Stick with me for a seocond.<\/p>\n

Back in the day\u2026. the way-back day\u2026. there were a lot of shows on Saturday morning.\u00a0 I loved that time of life.\u00a0 I can remember watching those morning cartoons at a pretty young age\u2026 and I probably kept it up through grade school.<\/p>\n

Any way\u2026 there is one in particular that I loved.\u00a0 It was called The Secrets of Isis.\u00a0 Honest to goodness.\u00a0 It was about this archaeologist.\u00a0 She finds this amulet-deal, that lets her turn into the super heroine goddess Isis.\u00a0 And then she gets all Isis-like and fights evil. (It starred some bit-part actress).<\/p>\n

Gosh I loved that show. It was one of the first Girl-Power Shows ever.\u00a0 I would go out and play like I was that super hero.\u00a0 I\u2019d repeat her classic line\u2026 \u201cOh Mighty Isis!\u201d to conjure up my very own super powers.<\/p>\n

So.\u00a0 THAT Goddess Isis was from the ancient Egyptian era.\u00a0 She was worshipped as the ideal mother AND the patroness of nature and magic.<\/p>\n

It gets better.\u00a0 She was the friend of slaves, sinners, artisans and the downtrodden.\u00a0 But she didn\u2019t draw lines there.\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0\u00a0 She also listened to the prayers of the wealthy, maidens, aristocrats and rulers.\u00a0 She knew no favorites.<\/p>\n

Now.\u00a0 Imagine my dismay\u2026 when one of the most horrible terrorist groups on the face of the planet comes to be known as ISIS.\u00a0 Some dingle-berry \u2026 somewhere\u2026 gave\u2026\u2026 the The Islamic State, also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham\u2026. the Acronym\u2026.ISIS.\u00a0 Big dumb bunnies.<\/p>\n

Why couldn\u2019t they have nicknamed them MMF.. for \u201cMonstrous Mudder Fockers.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Or something like that\u2026.<\/p>\n

No.\u00a0 They had to take a perfectly good Goddess and give her a bad name.\u00a0 A bad connotation. Now\u2026 ISIS is totally misconstrued.<\/p>\n

Those dang words with two meanings\u2026 like LIE.\u00a0 Either you aren\u2019t telling the truth\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 or you are resting in a horizontal position.<\/p>\n

But back to Isis.<\/p>\n

Certainly, we all have different perspectives on things.\u00a0 But it really bugs me when things get a bad reputation, due to \u201cguilt by association\u201d or misconceptions, or misinterpretations.<\/p>\n

And I guess that is the main thing to remember here.\u00a0 What could have a powerful and wonderful connotation to one person\u2026. may have an entirely different meaning to someone else.\u00a0 For whatever reason.<\/p>\n

That is where we sometimes have to tread lightly.\u00a0 Gaining knowledge of the perspectives of others.\u00a0 We all line up differently\u2026 that is for sure.<\/p>\n

Be it bay leaves, goddesses, or getting settled in for an afternoon nap.<\/p>\n

So the next time you are out\u2026. and\u00a0 order a Killer Brownie for dessert\u2026. you better find out just who is taking the order.<\/p>\n
