I have never been a big fan of The Bucket List idea.\u00a0\u00a0 If you have one… that is all good, and all.\u00a0 They are just not for me. \u00a0I haven’t quite been able to put my finger on it.\u00a0\u00a0 I DO know that one thing that bothers me is when people do things just because they are trendy, and everyone is following along.\u00a0 Like Lemmings, I’ll tell you.\u00a0 Right off the cliff sometimes.<\/p>\n

The free-thinkers, the ones who march to the beat of their own drum… are the ones I seem to be drawn to.\u00a0 I don’t really hang out with the Beliebers so very much.<\/p>\n

Anyway… back to the bucket list.\u00a0 I just read an article on it, which captured how I feel about them.<\/p>\n

The long and short of it is this…..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I already mentioned that is just seems trendy to me.\u00a0 The other thing is…..\u00a0\u00a0 once people make their list…. they put this really big burden on themselves to get the list accomplished.\u00a0 And if they aren’t actively pursuing their list… or getting things “Checked-Off”… they begin to feel guilty about it.<\/p>\n

But let’s say we do a great job of tracking the items on this down.\u00a0 Are they totally meaningful activities to us?\u00a0 I think most of the time, we just put things on that old B-List… because they sounded cool to do.<\/p>\n

When I hear people talk about their lists…. most of the things on those bucket lists are just ideas that popped randomly into our heads.\u00a0 A lot of times… they don’t appear to have anything connected to meaning.<\/p>\n

We hear things like \u201cskydiving\u201d and \u201clearning to ski\u201d or “visit the Sahara Desert\u201d…. or eat a hotdog in Yankee Stadium.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I mean… all of these things are interesting activities.<\/p>\n

But do we ever write down…. \u201cchange someone\u2019s life\u201d or \u201cfind a way to help others\u201d or \u201cbe compassionate toward those people I love\u201d.\u00a0 How about “be compassionate with humanity?”<\/p>\n

It just doesn’t seem to me that life should be a big to-do list.\u00a0 I have enough of those between the grocery, and cleaning the house.<\/p>\n

If we take the time to notice….. it is my submission that…. the most amazing things are right in front of us.\u00a0\u00a0 We can see them right where we are standing, I bet you.\u00a0\u00a0 Every day. Right now.<\/p>\n

Do we really need to go anywhere….. or see some incredible landmarks …. or drop out of planes…. to experience the wonder of life?<\/p>\n

Hmmmm.\u00a0 Meaningful things each day.<\/p>\n

And maybe… if we can’t think of anything meaningful to do in our everyday lives…. that might be a good place for us to start?<\/p>\n
