I am blaming on Sweet Polly Pure Bread, and Lois Lane, and Snow White.<\/p>\n

Stay with me here for a minute.\u00a0 You see… today is the Anniversary of The Barbie Doll.<\/p>\n

Barbie is a fashion doll manufactured by the American toy-company Mattel, Inc. and launched on March\u00a0 9, 1959. American businesswoman Ruth Handler is credited with the creation of the doll.<\/p>\n

Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts….. AND….\u00a0 her parents’ names are given as George and Margaret Roberts … if you can EVEN imagine what they might look like.\u00a0 They haled from the fictional town of Willows, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

So there you have it.\u00a0 Now why am I blaming the likes of Sweet Polly Pure Bread, et al?\u00a0 Well, I’ll tell you right dang now.\u00a0 Those characters ALWAYS needed saving.\u00a0 They were constantly getting in a big pot of hot water, and some hero would have to swoop in and save the day.<\/p>\n

I wanted no part of that, I’ll tell you right now.\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 I wanted to be on the team of the Heroes.\u00a0 So I never played with Barbies.\u00a0 I think I associated her as being the kind of gal who would fall for the antics of Snidely Whiplash.\u00a0 And then she would be tied to the train tracks.\u00a0 And then someone would have to save the day… or there would be big boobs splattered all over the B&O Railroad Tracks.<\/p>\n

GI Joes.\u00a0 Now I had a ton of them.\u00a0 My sister and I used to play GI Joe’s for hours on end.\u00a0 Until we grew out of that phase… sometime before college. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

I am sure I wasn’t the norm.\u00a0 Most little girls loved to play with baby dolls and Barbies.\u00a0 I remember the first time I let the cat out of the bag with a bunch of little girlfriends.\u00a0 They laughed and said… “YOU play with GI JOES????”\u00a0 And there it was.<\/p>\n

Of course now I know that neither one was right or wrong.\u00a0\u00a0 To play with Barbies or not to play with Barbies.\u00a0 They are simply different.<\/p>\n

I think the world is getting better at accepting differences.\u00a0 But we have to teach our children early on.\u00a0 We have to let them know that people who are different from us are simply different .\u00a0 And that is all.\u00a0 Like some people like mustard on their ham sandwiches… and others prefer mayonnaise.\u00a0 Neither ham sandwich is wrong.\u00a0\u00a0 WHOOPS.\u00a0 BIG apology to The Pig.\u00a0 My bad.<\/p>\n

At any rate, you must be getting my point here.\u00a0 Accepting that which is distinct, divergent, or unalike in our lives.\u00a0 We owe it to our fellow human beings to offer them respect for their choices.<\/p>\n

We all can’t be right… all the time.\u00a0 Or wrong.\u00a0 But we can all be different…. every single minute of our lives.\u00a0 And everything is right with that.<\/p>\n
