{"id":3174,"date":"2015-03-07T23:49:27","date_gmt":"2015-03-08T04:49:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/?p=3174"},"modified":"2015-03-07T23:55:30","modified_gmt":"2015-03-08T04:55:30","slug":"ankle-face","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/?p=3174","title":{"rendered":"Ankle Face"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/remote1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3177\" src=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/remote1.jpg\" alt=\"remote\" width=\"800\" height=\"604\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/remote1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/remote1-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Have you ever put your foot in your mouth?\u00a0 And if so&#8230;. well&#8230;&#8230;\u00a0 you know what I mean.<\/p>\n<p>But where did the phrase come from?\u00a0 Some sources say it comes from the cattle disease&#8230; foot-and-mouth.\u00a0 The name of the disease was then metaphorically applied to humans who&#8217;s verbal utterances got them in to big handy trouble.\u00a0 Dag nab it.<\/p>\n<p>Other sources say it comes as a result of a politician named Sir Richard Roche, in the late 1770s.\u00a0 He was always saying the dumbest things&#8230; like Dan Quayle.\u00a0 He got the nickname &#8220;The Mouth&#8221;.\u00a0 The other popular phrase of the day was &#8220;Putting your foot in it&#8221;&#8230; meaning stepping in poop.\u00a0 Hence the phrase somehow transcended from there.<\/p>\n<p>It really makes no difference.<\/p>\n<p>I bet you it comes from someone who bites their toenails in public.\u00a0 Everyone is obviously embarrassed for this person, because they are sitting there, in the middle of public, biting on their gross toenails, with their foot is in their mouth.\u00a0\u00a0 That is what I think.<\/p>\n<p>Nonetheless.\u00a0 Today, I put my foot in my mouth.\u00a0 I felt horrible about it.<\/p>\n<p>This seems to happen to me frequently when I am in public.\u00a0 You see&#8230; my mind is always spinning things in a hundred directions.\u00a0 Honest to goodness.\u00a0 You know&#8230;. when I am by myself &#8230; I can spout these things out without it really falling on anyone else&#8217;s ears.\u00a0 But SHOOT!\u00a0 When you put me around people&#8230; you know&#8230; in public&#8230;. I sometimes forget to strap my filter on my face.<\/p>\n<p>And out it comes.<\/p>\n<p>Part of my cloth is to make amends immediately.\u00a0 So today&#8230; after I said my dumb donkey thing &#8230; I got up from the room&#8230;. and stalked the guy all the way to the john.\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t follow him in&#8230; but I thought about it.\u00a0 See what I MEAN?\u00a0 At any rate, when he came out, I apologized, and I started crying.\u00a0 Great.\u00a0 Now I am an idiot with a foot in my mouth and snot running down my face.<\/p>\n<p>He was completely understanding.\u00a0 A complete gentleman with the utmost character.\u00a0 And he was quite forgiving.\u00a0 Although, I think he might have thought I was a little bit on the crazy-spindle when I followed him to the men&#8217;s room.<\/p>\n<p>So what is my point?\u00a0 I was reminded to use that Silence of the Lambs strap-on-mouth-gag &#8230;. a little more often &#8230;. when I am out in public.<\/p>\n<p>On the serious side.\u00a0\u00a0 It reminded me to:<br \/>\n1. Be present in the moment.<br \/>\n2. Pause before I react.<br \/>\n3. Speak and act kindly, always.<br \/>\n4. And for Pete&#8217;s Sake&#8230; hit the REWIND Button &#8230;. OR the SHUT UP Button.<\/p>\n<p>Life&#8217;s lessons.\u00a0 WE can&#8217;t live without them.\u00a0 And if we do&#8230; we haven&#8217;t learned a thing.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong> Wise men speak because they have something to say; Fools because they have to say something.\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 Plato<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Try to make at least one person happy every day. If you cannot do a kind deed, speak a kind word. If you cannot speak a kind word, think a kind thought.
