Tonight,\u00a0 as I was leaving for an appointment, I was headed east, for a short period of time.\u00a0 And I said to myself… “Holy Smackerels Polly.\u00a0 That is one dang BIG orange ball in the sky!”\u00a0 And it was.<\/p>\n

The moon was epic tonight.\u00a0 Actually, the moon is pretty epic every night.\u00a0 It doesn’t change.\u00a0 Just the light reflecting off the surface differs.\u00a0 You know, the angles and such.<\/p>\n

It is all very dependent on how earth is lining up with moon is lining up with sun.<\/p>\n

Most people, on most nights, don’t even take notice of the moon.\u00a0 But I like the freaky thing.<\/p>\n

The Moon (or Luna) is the Earth\u2019s only natural satellite.\u00a0 And it is old…..about\u00a0 4.6 billion years old.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, the Moon is in synchronous rotation with Earth meaning the same side is always facing the Earth.\u00a0\u00a0 Most people will never see the dark side of the moon.<\/p>\n

But do you know what I think sort of stinks?\u00a0 The Moon has only been walked on by 12 people…… all American males.\u00a0 Not that there is anything wrong with American males…. it just seems wrong to me.\u00a0 (Neil Armstrong was the first and Gene Cernan was the last.)<\/p>\n

But, I digress.<\/p>\n

This whole night I have been digressing.\u00a0 So back to it.\u00a0 As I looked up and saw that massive ball of orange and red up in the sky,…. the little trapdoors in my maze of a brain…. started snapping open and shut.<\/p>\n

I went from seeing the moon, to thinking about Charlie Brown, and The Great Pumpkin… to Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata… to mooning people in high school….\u00a0 to Werewolves…. then on to Moon River….\u00a0 and to my old neighbor named Moonie…. Moon Pies…. and on and on….. But my brain finally settled on this: “Why on God’s green earth did Michael Jackson name his famous dance “The Moon Walk”?<\/p>\n

In all the footage I have seen …. of the 12 white American men who walked on the moon… None… NOT a ONE…. walked around backward grabbing his crotch… with sparkly white socks on.<\/p>\n

And then… I heard a car horn.\u00a0 An SUV was behind me… and the guy was waving his arms for me to get out of the way.\u00a0 It appears I was a little lost in thought… pondering the mysteries of the Moon.<\/p>\n

I smiled, waved, and made my left turn.\u00a0 He hollered out the window… “Lunatic.”<\/p>\n

And there you have it.\u00a0 He knows one when he sees one.\u00a0 Shine on, my friend.\u00a0 Shine on.<\/p>\n
