Groundhog Day.\u00a0 Another one has come and gone.<\/p>\n

In my mind… Groundhog Day begs just one question:\u00a0 “Why?”<\/p>\n

Seriously.\u00a0 Does anyone give this thing any credence?\u00a0\u00a0 It is merely a misguided superstition.\u00a0\u00a0 It has turned into a Freakish Circus of Interest.\u00a0\u00a0 You see…. the whole ball of wax got started on this day in 1887.\u00a0\u00a0 Of course it featured none other than\u00a0 a rodent meteorologist.<\/p>\n

The big celebration of this….. began at Gobbler’s Knob in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania…. with a\u00a0 furry dude named Phil. By a bunch of drunken Groundhog Hunters.<\/p>\n

And.\u00a0 According to tradition, if a groundhog comes out of its hole on this day and sees its shadow…. there will be six more weeks of winter weather.\u00a0 Conversely….. no shadow means an early spring.\u00a0 Oh yeah.\u00a0 Makes perfect sense to me.<\/p>\n

If people won’t believe in things like Wood Nymphs and Magic Faeries … why in the heck do they put water in the pail with this Groundhog thing?<\/p>\n

GH Day is merely a superstition with tradition.\u00a0\u00a0 Superstitions come in many shapes and sizes.\u00a0 The number 13… for instance. Most regard it as an unlucky omen.\u00a0\u00a0 The list is enormous….
\nA cat has nine lives
\nEating fish makes you smart
\nToads cause warts
\nA cricket in the house brings good luck
\nA rabbit’s foot brings good luck
\nTo find a four-leaf clover is to find good luck
\nIf you walk under a ladder, you will have bad luck
\nIf a black cat crosses your path you will have bad luck
\nTo break a mirror will bring you seven years bad luck
\nTo open an umbrella in the house is to bring bad luck
\nTo find a horseshoe brings good luck
\nNever shut a pocket knife someone else opened, they must shut it themselves…..<\/p>\n

And of course… rodents seeing shadows….<\/p>\n

Now, I don’t really buy into the whole superstition thing.<\/p>\n

Although, I will say….\u00a0 I rely on my Sock Monkey for some things…. which I like to call “Advice”….. they’re not really Superstitions.<\/p>\n

Like…. on the morning right after a full moon, I watch my Sock\u00a0 Monkey when he wakes up.\u00a0 If he throws his Sock Monkey sheets to the left…. it means we should eat more Bleu Cheese.\u00a0 But if he tosses his sheets back to the right… it indicates that I should put the utility bills in the mail.<\/p>\n

And that is sound Sock Monkey advice.\u00a0 Don’t ask me why.<\/p>\n

Okay.\u00a0 Maybe because my Sock Monkey has such awe-inspiring sheets.\u00a0 The things dreams are made of.<\/p>\n
