\"superkick\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Some things\u00a0 in life go unnoticed.\u00a0 Or perhaps, they are just under rated.\u00a0 It could be anything really.<\/p>\n

Pickles, for instance.\u00a0 They don’t get due credit.\u00a0 But for me, a cheeseburger just is not complete until it has a ridiculous amount of pickles on it.\u00a0 Or consider the pickle and any kind of mayonnaise salad… like potato salad, or ham salad.\u00a0 It has to have little bits of pickle chopped up in it… or it just doesn’t fly.<\/p>\n

But perhaps, one of the biggest things that gets overlooked are sidekicks.\u00a0 And there is not one bit of glory in being a sidekick.\u00a0 But you know…. every good Super Hero has a Sidekick. The mission would not be complete without them.\u00a0 The day could not be saved.\u00a0 The happy ending would not be quite as happy without the sidekick.<\/p>\n

But the sidekick serves without question.<\/p>\n

Take Batman.\u00a0 And of course, his little helping hand.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Big Bruce always says…. “To the Bat Cave, Robin.”\u00a0 Not one dang time … does Robin EVER say… “I’d rather not.\u00a0 Let’s say we go straight to the mansion and watch Alfred bake cookies.”<\/p>\n

But.\u00a0 If Batman gets in a jam, old Robin is always there.\u00a0 POW-ing…. and BLAMMO-ing…. and KA-PUNCH-ing his way out of every mess.<\/p>\n

Yet, the crowds always cheer for the Superhero.\u00a0 There is no acclaim or homage for the sidekick.\u00a0 They just serve their purpose.\u00a0 Those little kickers are the close companions who are generally regarded as subordinate to the Head Honcho.\u00a0 And their costumes are never quite as nifty either.<\/p>\n

The origin of the word is unknown also.\u00a0 There is a theory that it meant “kicked to the side” and another which relates to pants’ pockets being called “kicks”.\u00a0 Who knows?\u00a0 Oh the Sidekick.<\/p>\n

There are slews of them.\u00a0 Barney Rubble to Fred Flintstone.\u00a0 Igor to Dr. Frankenstein.\u00a0 Jimmy Olsen to Clark Kent.\u00a0 Piglet to Pooh.\u00a0\u00a0 Barney Fife to Andy Taylor.\u00a0 Gromit to Wallace.\u00a0 Ethel to Lucy.\u00a0 Watson to Sherlock.\u00a0\u00a0 And Donkey to Shrek.<\/p>\n

I guess the lesson to be learned is that we all can’t be Super Heroes.\u00a0 Sometimes, it is just as important, or maybe even MORE SO, do to the small things.\u00a0 To be the support.\u00a0 To save the day when no one else is watching.<\/p>\n

It could be anything.\u00a0 A smile to someone who needs to see it.\u00a0 Opening the door for a stranger.\u00a0 Buying someone lunch who is down on their luck.\u00a0 Coloring a picture with a kid.\u00a0 Telling a friend how important they are to you.<\/p>\n

Yes, I think that might be it.\u00a0 If we can’t leap tall buildings…. we can put our coat down over a puddle for someone on the street.\u00a0 We may not be able to run faster than a speeding bullet, but I bet we can walk beside someone, and offer a hand in support.<\/p>\n

Pass the pickles Tonto.\u00a0 Yabba Dabba Do.<\/p>\n
