Rudy, Rudy, Rudy.<\/p>\n

Oh tonight, Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer was on.\u00a0 This was one of my favorite Christmas Shows when I was growing up.\u00a0 Actually, I think it was my very favorite.<\/p>\n

I watch it every year.\u00a0 Still.\u00a0 But tonight, some things “hit” me for the first time.\u00a0 It is not such a great show for teaching the acceptance of diversity.\u00a0 Oh sure, in the end… everybody loves Rudolph, and his Red Nose…. because he saves the day with his mad skills.<\/p>\n

But up until that point, the community shunned him.\u00a0 Santa dissed him.\u00a0 He all out told Donner that his son could NOT be on the team “with a nose like that.”\u00a0 Heck, the Coach even said… “We’re not going to let Rudolph play in the Reindeer Games any more… right fellas?”\u00a0 What the heck kind of role-models are THOSE?<\/p>\n

So yeah.\u00a0 It wasn’t until his red nose was useful to them…. that they brought him into their circle of friends.\u00a0 Same with the little Dentist Elf.<\/p>\n

That’s like being against the Gay Community, until you need a wedding planner.\u00a0 And THEN and only then…… wonder-boy Franc (aka Martin Short) is your guy.<\/p>\n

Now Cornelius.\u00a0 What’s not to like about Yukon Cornelius.\u00a0\u00a0 Anybody… who lives by this phrase…. “Oh, well, now I’m off to get my life-sustaining supplies: cornmeal and gun powder and hamhocks and guitar strings.”\u00a0 What the heck is better than hamhocks, and guitar strings?\u00a0\u00a0 This guy is golden.\u00a0\u00a0 I mean… the guy gives his dogs a ride on his sled.<\/p>\n

Finally… all those toys… that didn’t have a place to live… because they didn’t fit in.\u00a0 They ended up being sent to the Island of Misfits.\u00a0 Sort of like a homeless shelter for wayward toys.\u00a0 I guess the bright side is… at LEAST they had a homeless shelter… an Island of Misfits… where they could be safe.. and warm… and sleep at night.<\/p>\n

Unlike Preble County… a place that is still without out a homeless shelter… and also a place where there is very little acceptance of diversity.<\/p>\n

And that my friends… is as plain as the nose on your face.\u00a0 Religions are many and diverse,
\nbut reason and goodness are one.\u00a0 -Elbert Hubbard<\/strong><\/p>\n
