Perceptions.<\/p>\n

This word has been on my mind tonight, so I guess that is what I am supposed to write about.<\/p>\n

There are as many perceptions in the world as there are people.\u00a0 We each have our unique perspective on any given situation, on any given day.\u00a0 It is said that there is no reality.\u00a0 Just perception.\u00a0 Yep…\u00a0 our way of regarding someone or some situation.\u00a0 Our understanding, or interpretation of….. anything.\u00a0 A mental impression.<\/p>\n

It isn’t far from an opinion, really.\u00a0\u00a0 What we perceive is influence by every other single moment of our lives.<\/p>\n

For instance, if our parents taught us from the time we were born that oysters were highly poisonous, and we would drop like flies if we ate EVEN one… we would probably be reluctant about frequenting the Oyster Bar Scene.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oysters are poison.\u00a0 That is our truth.<\/p>\n

So you see, perceptions can be a tricky thing.\u00a0 Because let’s face it.\u00a0 For whatever reason…. people actually DO eat oysters, and they survive!\u00a0 (And they LIKE them!)<\/p>\n

Just today, in several conversations throughout the day, I could see that people had extremely divergent impressions of varying situations.<\/p>\n

Here’s another side of it.\u00a0 Some people don’t give a rat’s astroid about what other people think.\u00a0 Somehow, I truly believe this is a gift.\u00a0 Maybe.<\/p>\n

I wish I had just a little bit of that.\u00a0 You see…. I care way too much about what other’s think of me.\u00a0 I put an awful lot of weight in it.\u00a0 Daily.\u00a0 I think there is a difference between being “open” to other’s opinions….. and worrying about what other people think about us.\u00a0 And I worry.<\/p>\n

With all that said…. I hope you don’t think any less of me tonight.\u00a0 The truth is… I don’t like oysters.\u00a0 Not one bit.\u00a0\u00a0 My perception of them rests in knowing that they are a grayish white bivalve mollusks with rough irregular shells.\u00a0 And they remind me of snot.<\/p>\n

But back to the thing about perceptions.\u00a0 I guess it might just be that we do not necessarily have to agree with, or share, the same outlooks as others … . … but perhaps\u00a0 we should simply accept that we are all unique.\u00a0 And that truly is one of the best parts of life.<\/p>\n

I can’t think of anyone I admire who isn’t fueled by self-doubt. It’s an essential ingredient. It’s the grit in the oyster.\u00a0\u00a0 —\u00a0 Richard Eyre<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
