That sure is for the birds.
\nGeez.\u00a0 What a bird brain.
\nDon’t you know, birds of a feather flock together?
\nYep.\u00a0 And two birds in the hand are worth one in the bush.
\nWe can kill two birds with one stone.<\/p>\n

Why, I ask you… are there so many bird idioms?
\nCounting your chickens before they are hatched…
\nAs the crow flies.
\nMadder than a wet hen.
\nNaked as a jay bird.
\nRun around like a chicken with its head cut off.<\/p>\n

On, it goes.\u00a0 There are more bird phrases than clouds in Henny Penny’s falling sky.<\/p>\n

Here is what I strongly suspect.
\nAll bird phrases originated in the presence of politicians.<\/p>\n

Read the list again.\u00a0 You will see that they are all applicable.
\nExcept for “Smart as an Owl.”\u00a0 This one started, and most likely, ended with Lincoln.<\/p>\n

Now please don’t get me wrong.\u00a0 We love birds.\u00a0 We love to watch them, and feed them.\u00a0 All of them. Everyday.\u00a0 Even the the Cooper’s Hawk that comes in and perches… and waits for some unsuspecting smaller bird… to let its guard down… and then SWOOOOSH.\u00a0 The happy little chickadee quickly falls victim to this bird of prey.<\/p>\n

Once again, the similarities to politics are uncanny.<\/p>\n

It all could just be coincidence… I suppose.\u00a0 But no matter.<\/p>\n

In the end… I just say…<\/p>\n

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And that means… equality for all.\u00a0 No squawking about it.\u00a0 And certainly no preying on the weak.<\/p>\n

I’ll know one thing…. you sure can learn a lot from the bird phrases.<\/p>\n
