My Dad died over a year ago.\u00a0 I can’t tell you how much I miss him.\u00a0 He truly was a great man, and I’m not just saying that because he was my Dad.\u00a0 He\u00a0undoubtedly, did a lot of good in this world… for a lot of people.\u00a0 He was compassionate and kind in his entire being…. heart and soul.<\/p>\n

One of the things he did during his life was serve the United States during WWII. He was stationed on the European Front.\u00a0 A Gunny.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 He never spoke too much about this thing of war.\u00a0 I think it deeply affected him.\u00a0 I know he felt much honor in duty to his country.\u00a0 Our country.\u00a0\u00a0 But I am not sure he agreed with everything that war calls upon an individual to do.\u00a0 To see. To experience.<\/p>\n

For a little three-letter-word, “war” packs quite a punch.\u00a0 It is about as complicated, consequential, and comprehensive as little words go.<\/p>\n

You see….. people can’t seem to agree on things.\u00a0\u00a0 A very wide range of things.\u00a0\u00a0 And when this disagreement gets to elevated levels of hostility… over land boundaries… or genocide… or money ….\u00a0 or egos….\u00a0 this thing called war ensues.<\/p>\n

I don’t like war one bit.\u00a0 It only brings sadness, and loss.\u00a0 It is cruel.\u00a0 But I don’t know what the resolution could ever be.\u00a0 Peace is the obvious answer.\u00a0\u00a0 But everyone has to be on board with peace.\u00a0 Everyone.<\/p>\n

And I don’t think that will ever happen in the existence of human beings.\u00a0 In fact….\u00a0 it is this inability which will most likely be the end to our civilization as we know it.\u00a0 Hopefully not in our lifetimes, or our children’s children’s lifetimes.\u00a0\u00a0 There is that hope.<\/p>\n

Today was Veterans Day.<\/p>\n

As we all know, it is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces….. our Veterans who are called to duty in such wars.\u00a0 My Dad.\u00a0 Your son.\u00a0 Our sisters, mothers, brothers, and all.<\/p>\n

Always on November 11th.\u00a0 To mark the anniversary of the end of World War I …..\u00a0 at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.\u00a0\u00a0 At least, that is when the Armistice with Germany went in to effect.<\/p>\n

So tonight, I say thank you to all the Veterans who have served.\u00a0 All those fine men and women who have been called to answer the unanswerable.<\/p>\n

They have been brave.\u00a0 They have sacrificed.\u00a0 They have seen things that shouldn’t be seen.\u00a0 Yet….. I do not think we will ever see World Peace.<\/p>\n

But I hope and pray, like I am sure my Dad did….. that we simply will see more peace IN this world.\u00a0 Each and every day.\u00a0 And that each one of us, can be an active part in creating peace with one another.\u00a0 Every day.\u00a0 For the more peace we create… the less we will be a part of this thing called of war.<\/p>\n

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.\u00a0 –\u00a0 Mother Teresa<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.\u00a0 –\u00a0 Eleanor Roosevelt<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
