So… I think we all know that I don’t write this “blog” or “column” or “thing” every night for the paycheck.\u00a0 In fact… there is not dollar amount involved.\u00a0 The main reason I DO write this in “in hopes.”\u00a0 By that, I mean… it is in hopes that it will somehow “reach” one person each day… at the very least.\u00a0\u00a0 This could be in the form of making someone smile, or chuckle…. or perhaps provoking a thought… or sparking a new idea.\u00a0 Maybe even making their day a little better… in some way, shape, or form.<\/p>\n

But every now and again.. I have to write about what is heaviest on my mind or in my heart.\u00a0 Such is the case tonight.
\nI typically don’t use my “writing entries” for political, religious, or governmental issues.\u00a0 But there are some things that are happening in legislation, and otherwise\u2026.. which concern me.<\/p>\n

It seems to me that the United States is moving backwards in certain areas of our culture and understanding.\u00a0\u00a0 In many ways, we are at a standstill in the evolutionary process as a society.\u00a0 I think.<\/p>\n

You know, throughout history, there were things which used to occur…. and NOW we think those behaviors or practices…. are unheard of.\u00a0 But what the heck, I say.\u00a0 Let’s just throw it all out the window, start WAY back at square one, and bring those things around again.<\/p>\n

How about if we start with the “Rule of Thumb?”\u00a0 The deal USED to be\u2026 it was legal to beat your wife with a stick….\u00a0 so long as the diameter of that stick\u2026. was not larger than your thumb.\u00a0 Sound absurd now?\u00a0\u00a0 Well… in my estimation… so do some of today’s rulings and decisions that are being passed in courts and in legislation.<\/p>\n

Okay next.\u00a0 Slavery.\u00a0\u00a0 Since we are being obtuse.\u00a0 Let’s bring that back too.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Oh no???\u00a0\u00a0 That would be a HUGE violation on Human Rights????\u00a0\u00a0 Hmmm.\u00a0\u00a0 There are recent verdicts in the courts that are violating human rights also\u2026.\u00a0\u00a0 Albeit a different minority… but a group of minorities nonetheless.<\/p>\n

How about this one?\u00a0\u00a0 Let’s rescind the Right to Vote for Women.\u00a0 I mean, since we are wiping the slate clean\u2026\u00a0 that would certainly put women “back in their place.”<\/p>\n

If you don’t know what I am getting at\u2026. I’ll just say this.<\/p>\n

Tonight, in Las Vegas,\u00a0 probably 20 or so…. Barbies and Kens\u2026 will get drunk in some bar\u2026. They will proceed to think it is a good idea to marry the Barbie or Ken sitting next to them\u2026 and off they will go.\u00a0 Yep\u2026 get them to the Chapel on time.\u00a0 They will be licensed to marry\u2026.. And in just a moments notice\u2026 they will be afforded all of the human and legal rights of married people.\u00a0 Count on it.\u00a0 Another round of Gin and Tonics please….. before we head to the Chick-fil-A for the reception.<\/p>\n

And elsewhere in America tonight\u2026. There are couples who have been faithful to one another for 25 years or many, many more\u00a0 \u2026. They’ve raised children and grandchildren together\u2026\u00a0 they’ve paid taxes, obeyed the laws of the land, voted, and on.\u00a0 They are lawyers, and teachers, and doctors, and preachers.\u00a0\u00a0 They are cashiers, and backhoe operators.\u00a0 They are soldiers, and police officers, and fire & rescue workers.\u00a0 Yet they will not be afforded that same luxury…. as those same good old Barbies and Kens in Vegas.<\/p>\n

And that bites.<\/p>\n

So\u2026 to leave you on a positive note.\u00a0 A bar joke.<\/p>\n

A guy walks into a bar and asks for a beer. He chugs it, looks into his pocket and asks for another beer. He chugs that beer, looks into his pocket and asks for another.<\/p>\n

The man does this a few more times until the bartender asks, “How come you ask for a beer, chug it, then look in your pocket?”<\/p>\n

The man says, “Because there is a picture of my wife in my pocket and I’m gonna keep drinking till she looks good enough for me to go home.”<\/p>\n

Ahhhh…. the repercussions of another Vegas Marriage.<\/p>\n
