I am filled up with a couple of things tonight.<\/p>\n

The first thing on my little head.<\/p>\n

It just feels good to be in the presence of certain people. Not ALL people.\u00a0 No way, no how.<\/p>\n

If we are lucky…. we have the true ones.\u00a0 Those certain ones.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They are the individuals who know YOU….. and they still like you anyway. And. Every time you come together, the conversations simply picks up right where it left off.<\/p>\n

Laughing with them is easy.\u00a0 Crying with them is easy.\u00a0 There is trust.\u00a0 And kindness.\u00a0 There are hopes, and worries. There is understanding.\u00a0\u00a0 But it is all wrapped up.\u00a0 Just so.\u00a0 In those certain ones.<\/p>\n

For me, in my life…. those people number a very few.\u00a0 I am fortunate enough to have those connections with some of m siblings.\u00a0 And my parents.\u00a0\u00a0 And of course, a handful of friends.<\/p>\n

And the second thing…\u00a0 that I have been thinking about is who I am.<\/p>\n

You know, we ask our children:\u00a0 “What do you want to be when you grow up?”\u00a0 The What.<\/p>\n

A ball player?\u00a0 A doctor?\u00a0 An engineer?\u00a0 A preacher?\u00a0 What?\u00a0 So kids start dreaming about that “WHAT” in their lives.\u00a0 Yet, a lot of times, it never happens, or it changes.<\/p>\n

I think… quite honestly… the question our parents should have asked us… and now… the question we should ask our children, is this:<\/p>\n

WHO do you want to be when you grow up?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do you want to be kind?\u00a0 Do you want to be someone who laughs a lot?\u00a0 Who sings?\u00a0 Who is compassionate?\u00a0 Or maybe you would rather be cynical?\u00a0 Or angry… or someone who doubts everything?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Perhaps.. you want to be someone who is simply glad to be standing exactly where you are standing?\u00a0\u00a0 The who.<\/p>\n

This whole world is so full of complexities.
\nToday we celebrated my Mom’s 91st birthday party at our house.\u00a0 We enjoyed the entire day together… the all of us.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I was really WITH some of those “certain ones” in my life today.\u00a0 And.\u00a0 Most of all… I am very thankful that we all are WHO we are.<\/p>\n

We may not be rocket scientists, or brain surgeons, or\u00a0 ball players.\u00a0 We are all very different. That is for certain.\u00a0 But mostly, we are all very much the same.\u00a0 We have love in our hearts for each other.\u00a0 That is what matters. \u00a0 That is WHO we are.<\/p>\n
