<\/a><\/p>\nTonight, we are watching the new X-Men Movie.\u00a0 So far it is pretty dang good.<\/p>\n
But two things have come up during this cinematic event.<\/p>\n
1.\u00a0 I would like to have Mutant Powers.\u00a0 I would want to be the really fast guy… or the blue lady.
\n2.\u00a0 Richard Nixon is in this movie.\u00a0 They show him as having 3 dogs in the White House.\u00a0 I didn’t think of Nixon as being a dog-lover.\u00a0 But as it turns out…. he was.\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 I looked it up.\u00a0 The 3-dog thing was accurate.<\/p>\n
So, let’s talk about Presidential Pets.\u00a0 This movie made me wonder which of our country’s head honcho’s had a dog, cat, or otherwise in the White House.<\/p>\n
A lot of the First Gents & Ladies… did.\u00a0 A lot.\u00a0 I found everything from Wallabies to Elephants.\u00a0\u00a0 Some of interest:<\/p>\n
Thomas Jefferson had a pet Mockingbird… named\u00a0 Dick… of all things.\u00a0 Tommy J also had a couple of bear cubs and a horse.\u00a0 I guess he and this Dick guy were pretty good friends.<\/p>\n
John Quincy Adams had Silkworms.\u00a0 I hear those have HUGE personalities.\u00a0 Way to go, Quincy boy.\u00a0 Worms?<\/p>\n
Andrew Jackson… unfortunately had Fighting Cocks.\u00a0 Can I call him a Dick?<\/p>\n
Now, old James Garfield had a dog named Veto.\u00a0 That’s funny, I don’t care who you are.<\/p>\n
The big pet owners, by far, were Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, and John F. Kennedy.\u00a0 They had 29, 26, and 21 respectively.\u00a0 However, the big winner may go to Benjamin Harrison.\u00a0 He owned two opossums, named Mr. Reciprocity and Mr. Protection.<\/p>\n
Of course, my favorite was George Washington with his pet parrot named… Polly.<\/p>\n
I’m just glad I don’t have to be a President to have a pet.<\/p>\n
Like our little girls Ollie… Max …. and Frances.<\/p>\n
