Baked Alaska.\u00a0 There you have it.\u00a0 For whatever reason, things just randomly pop into my head.\u00a0\u00a0 And then I fall into this whole sense of wonder, and curiousity… about whatever that thing is.<\/p>\n

Hence, tonight’s topic.<\/p>\n

Here in the good ol’ US of A… we are pretty focused on food.\u00a0\u00a0 I guess many cultures are.\u00a0 But here it seems… we have to claim rights to everything.\u00a0 Everything needs a name… and the “where” it came from is not left for specualation.<\/p>\n

It is mostly cities that do this.\u00a0 The Philly Cheesesteak.\u00a0 New York Style Pizza.\u00a0 Chicago Style Pizza.\u00a0 Tex Mex.\u00a0 San Francisco Sourdough Bread.\u00a0 Boston Baked Beans.\u00a0 Oh, it goes on and on.<\/p>\n

But it seems at the state level, the claims are more for production purposes.\u00a0 Florida Oranges.\u00a0 Idaho Potatos.\u00a0 California Raisins.\u00a0 And such.<\/p>\n

So… what was that popped into my head?<\/p>\n

Baked Alaska.\u00a0 Now… what other state has anything about it cooked?\u00a0 Fried Florida?\u00a0 Granulated Georgia?\u00a0 Wilted Washington?\u00a0 Roasted Rhode Island?\u00a0 NO.\u00a0 No, I’ll tell you.<\/p>\n

But leave it to Alaska… to come up with this one.<\/p>\n

I would have blamed it on Sarah Palin…. but then it would have been half-baked.<\/p>\n

I can’t say that I’ve ever tasted this dessert.\u00a0 I had to look it up to see what it is.<\/p>\n

So… in case you didn’t know.\u00a0 The dish is made of ice cream placed in a pie dish lined with slices of sponge cake…. or Christmas pudding (whatever the crap THAT is)…..\u00a0 and THEN….. it is topped with meringue.<\/p>\n

Put it in an extremely hot oven for a little minute.\u00a0 Just long enough to firm the meringue.\u00a0 But DON’T melt the icecream.\u00a0 Ha!
\nAnd here is one for the ages…..\u00a0\u00a0 February 1 is Baked Alaska Day in the United States.\u00a0 Who knew.<\/p>\n

You sure don’t see this on menus anywhere… any more.\u00a0 Probably….. for good reason.\u00a0 It sounds like something Alice would make for the Brady Bunch.<\/p>\n

Now… if I still ate sugar… and dessert… I think my choice of the choosiest would be either Pennsylvania Pie… or Kansas Cake.\u00a0\u00a0 If they existed.<\/p>\n

One thing to remember though… is this.\u00a0 No matter the dessert… it is someone’s favorite.\u00a0 Somewhere.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 People love desserts because they are delightful… and sweet.<\/p>\n

Sort of like us.\u00a0 People like us when we are delightful… and sweet.\u00a0 So try not to lose the Baked Alaska in you.<\/p>\n

The reward for work well done is the opportunity to do more.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
