Today I was a Guest Host.\u00a0\u00a0 Not like a gameshow Guest Host.\u00a0 I was a Guest Host in the literal sense.\u00a0 We had guests, and I was one of the hosts.<\/p>\n

Now, guests can come in many forms, shapes and sizes.\u00a0 There are good guests, bad guests, those which you know, and total-stranger-guests.\u00a0 Sometimes they are friends, or family, or perhaps the Pope himself.<\/p>\n

This time we were lucky.\u00a0 Our guests were both good-guests, and good-friends at the same time!<\/p>\n

It is easy with people like these.\u00a0 We talked and laughed.\u00a0 This whole entire shindig was supposed to be a pool party.\u00a0 However, the weather felt more like late October, than mid-August.\u00a0 Nonetheless, the younger kids swam and we older kids watched.\u00a0 We talked about things like how our bursitis had been acting up, and it sure would be a drag to need a hip replacement.<\/p>\n

Like I said.\u00a0 Us older kids.<\/p>\n

But the weather did not deter our spirit of the day.\u00a0 We just moved our little party indoors…. as the rains came down.<\/p>\n

And.\u00a0 That is the thing about good friends.\u00a0 It is easy.<\/p>\n

You can talk…..pretty much endlessly….about all sorts of things.\u00a0\u00a0 From the finer points of puzzle solving, to daycare woes….. and more.<\/p>\n

We all agreed that we didn’t want a Pit Bull.\u00a0 Not for a pet, or for a neighbor’s pet.\u00a0 With all the fatal pit bull maulings of late, it makes you wonder about the breed.\u00a0\u00a0 I know you Pit Bull defenders will say it all depends on how you raise them… and your Pit Bull is as sweet as can be.\u00a0 Yet, that is exactly what the last women said, after her mother was killed by the family pit bull.\u00a0 I can’t remember a time in recent history where there was a death by Pomeranian.\u00a0 Or even death by Shih Tzu.<\/p>\n

At any rate, the conversation when from\u00a0 things like heroin addiction, to kitty leukemia,\u00a0 to crop conditions, to prize winning roses.<\/p>\n

We managed to make time for eating lots of spaghetti, and chocolate cream pie, and such.\u00a0 It was all good.<\/p>\n

And then….. like the frosting on a cake… ….. those good guests helped to clean up.\u00a0 They did it with an air of the nonchalant.\u00a0 Like they felt right at home.<\/p>\n

And I guess that is….. the one big point of this tonight.\u00a0 Good friends are certainly fun.\u00a0 But at the same time, they are also comfortable.\u00a0 Like your favorite chair.\u00a0 And.\u00a0 It always feels like you are right at home.<\/p>\n
