Who doesn\u2019t love a Merry-Go-Round.<\/p>\n

I mean\u2026 for crying out loud.\u00a0 First of all\u2026 they go round and round.\u00a0 And secondly\u2026. they are simply Merry all over the place.<\/p>\n

But ARE they? Truly?<\/p>\n

Have you ever seen the movie\u2026 \u2018Something Wicked This Way Comes\u2019?\u00a0 As I recall\u2026 there was something extremely sinister about the Merry Go-Round on which Jason Robards lurked.<\/p>\n

And what about action movies\u2026\u00a0 someone is ALWAYS getting in a shoot-out at the Merry-Go-Round.\u00a0 And then one of the bad guys get hit\u2026 and they slump over the horse…. all dead and limp…. and go round and round\u2026<\/p>\n

What about the movie… The Sting… with Newman and Redford?\u00a0 That Carousel was the secret entrance for the Brothel \/ Speakeasy.<\/p>\n

Well…\u00a0\u00a0 The old Merry-Go-Round has been AROUND for a long time.\u00a0 It started out in the 12th century\u2026 or about then.\u00a0\u00a0 Knights would gallop in a circle while tossing balls from one to another\u2026.. an activity that required great skill and horsemanship.<\/p>\n

Over the centuries.. this evolved into a whole bunch of different things.\u00a0 But.. it wasn\u2019t until the 19th century\u2026. that the very first steam-powered mechanical roundabout\u2026. as they were called\u2026. was invented by Thomas Bradshaw.<\/p>\n

English Dude.\u00a0 In England.\u00a0 It appeared at the Aylsham Fair in about 1861.<\/p>\n

But any way.\u00a0 Back to today.\u00a0 New Carousels kind of creep me out.\u00a0 Mostly because the horses look crazy-go-nuts.\u00a0\u00a0 Wild horses.\u00a0 They will drag you away.<\/p>\n

If I were a kid\u2026 I would not want to ride the one I saw today.\u00a0 Those horses were really eerie. Maybe even menacing.<\/p>\n

Okay\u2026 okay\u2026. truth be told\u2026 they are NOT really scary at all.\u00a0 Falling off a roof is scary.\u00a0 Riding a Merry-Go-Round is a bit on the boring side, really.\u00a0 It is kind of like when you get stuck at some Social Dinner\u2026 sitting next to Edna\u2026. and she talks about her pet snail collection for hours on end.\u00a0 And how her husband, Claude, has a real preoccupation with edging the lawn\u2026 and it bothers her\u2026 the fact that he is out there.. all hours of the day.\u00a0 Hell\u2026 he doesn\u2019t even know the names of her snails.\u00a0 And\u2026
\nAnd\u2026 well\u2026 you get the picture.\u00a0 It just goes round and round and round.\u00a0 And the painted ponies go up and down.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow\u2026. it is back to the Fair for me.\u00a0 I might try the Ferris Wheel.\u00a0 It will be a little more like falling off a roof.<\/p>\n
