How I love photography.<\/p>\n

It is the one form of art\u2026 where one split second\u2026 or a single moment\u2026. can be caught exactly as it was in time.<\/p>\n

A person.\u00a0 A landscape.\u00a0 A building.\u00a0 An animal.\u00a0 A bowl of oatmeal.<\/p>\n

We all know\u2026. a painting or drawing\u2026..\u00a0 can take a long,long time.\u00a0 And while some are\u00a0 incredibly realistic, they don\u2019t \u2018record\u2019 that instant\u2026 instantaneously.<\/p>\n

And film.\u00a0 Film is motion.\u00a0 On going.\u00a0 Yes lots of moments.\u00a0 But no stillness.\u00a0 No singleness.\u00a0\u00a0 Music can be seen, yes.\u00a0 But it records moments differently\u2026 audibly with the ability to prompt a visual response.<\/p>\n

Photography, and the premise of its vision \u2026. well\u2026. it gives me the shivers.\u00a0 Like a lemon tart gives me the shivers.<\/p>\n

Today, I judged a photography contest.\u00a0 I am not sure I am well-suited to be a judge.\u00a0 I have no robe.\u00a0 And no gavel.<\/p>\n

But seriously\u2026. with photo-judging\u2026. there is the whole technical aspect of it\u2026 which weighs heavily.\u00a0 But there is also the aesthetic part, the story-telling part, and then.. the OTHER thing.<\/p>\n

The OTHER thing that happens when you see certain images\u2026. and you say\u2026 \u201cHoly Smacker-oly.\u00a0 That is an AMAZING photograph.\u201d\u00a0 It moves beyond just being a two-dimensional representation of something.\u00a0 It becomes compelling.<\/p>\n

So.\u00a0 Today was hard.\u00a0 All sorts of photographs, from artists of all ages.\u00a0\u00a0 And each one of them sees through that viewfinder differently.<\/p>\n

But as hard as it was today\u2026 it reminded me just how diverse, and resonant, and inspiring this art form can be.\u00a0\u00a0 And that\u2019s what I like.<\/p>\n

Now\u2026 the floral competition\u2026 which took place in the same building\u2026 at the same time\u2026 was an entirely different matter.\u00a0 You can bet your Aster on it.<\/p>\n
