What is round and gets beat with a stick?\u00a0 Sometime it gets knocked around pretty good.\u00a0 So much in fact\u2026 that it has stitches.\u00a0 Two hundred sixteen to be exact.<\/p>\n

Well sure.\u00a0 It is a baseball.\u00a0 The National Pastime.\u00a0 That is its nickname, at least.\u00a0 A pastime is an activity that someone does regularly for enjoyment rather than work\u2026. or\u2026\u00a0 a hobby.<\/p>\n

Truth be told, I don\u2019t know many people my age who play baseball.\u00a0 Unless you count softball.\u00a0 Then I know quite a few.\u00a0 But back to it.<\/p>\n

For me\u2026 there was always a love of the game.<\/p>\n

Tonight we went to see our grandson Isaac play.\u00a0 He is seven.\u00a0 He is on a team with other seven year olds\u2026 and six year olds.\u00a0 The game can be pretty daunting at that age\u2026 I supposed.<\/p>\n

That is about when I started playing organized ball.\u00a0 But we were just like the Cincinnati Reds.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t play like these kids at all.\u00a0 No.\u00a0 I am sure we scooped up every grounder, hit screamers out of the park, turned double plays.\u00a0 We were like\u2026. incredible-players.\u00a0 Superstars with wings on our feet.<\/p>\n

At least\u2026 that\u2019s the way it felt when I was seven.<\/p>\n

But no matter what\u2026 through all the years\u2026 wherever we played\u2026 when the game was all said and done\u2026 there would be kids running around the base paths.\u00a0 I was always one of those kids.\u00a0 It was like I could never quite get enough of the game.\u00a0 I had to go out and run those bases\u2026 ONE more time\u2026 and slide into home plate with all my might.<\/p>\n

They finally made me quit doing this is college\u2026 but that\u2019s another story.<\/p>\n

There was a true love of the game.<\/p>\n

These days I still have that fond spot in my heart for it.\u00a0 I love to go watch and remember.\u00a0\u00a0 And there\u2019s nothing like getting a ballpark burger…. or frank…..\u00a0 with BOTH\u00a0 mustard and ketchup.<\/p>\n

Yep.\u00a0 It is a good pastime.. if I must say so myself.<\/p>\n

But these days\u2026. for my pastimes\u2026 I mostly swim and take walks and such.\u00a0 Shoot a camera… from time to time. \u00a0 To play baseball now feels too much like work for me.\u00a0 And by definition then\u2026 it is no longer an activity of leisure.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 And at this age\u2026 I really need my pastimes ….. to feel like pastimes.<\/p>\n
