Time.\u00a0 Old and new.<\/p>\n

I guess humans have always kind of figured on the passing from day to night.<\/p>\n

Artifacts from the Paleolithic suggest that the moon was used to reckon time as early as 6,000 years ago.\u00a0 To the moon, Alice… to the moon.<\/p>\n

And then\u2026. we started to have \u201clunar\u201d calendars\u2026.\u00a0 at least\u2026. those were among the first that we know of.\u00a0 They came in\u00a0 either 12 or 13 lunar months (either 354 or 384 days).\u00a0\u00a0 The calculations were a bit goofy back then.<\/p>\n

Next….\u00a0 there were the reforms of Julius Caesar era in 45 BC\u2026.. which put the Roman world on a solar calendar. (This was off a bit too.\u00a0 By 11 minutes per year.)\u00a0 Hail a cab, Caesar.<\/p>\n

So then\u2026. leave it to the Catholics.\u00a0\u00a0 Pope Gregory XIII introduced a correction in 1582.\u00a0\u00a0 The Gregorian calendar was only slowly adopted by different nations over a period of centuries.<\/p>\n

And now\u2026.it is the most commonly used calendar around the world.\u00a0 By far!<\/p>\n

We keep time everywhere.\u00a0 In hourglasses, and watches\u2026 walk clocks and smart phone.\u00a0 We keep time with our feet and in our heads.<\/p>\n

But that is a bit of an oxymoron isn\u2019t it?\u00a0 Keeping time?<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t keep it at all.\u00a0 It passes\u2026. well\u2026. with each passing second.
\nMy personal favorite is the zeptosecond\u2026 which is 10 to the negative 21st of a second.\u00a0 That\u2019a fast.\u00a0 It can\u2019t really even be measured.\u00a0 Or kept.<\/p>\n

But with time\u2026 things come and go.\u00a0\u00a0 Days, trees, flowers, frogs, Soap Operas, cookies, people\u2026. you name it.\u00a0 It goes.<\/p>\n

And it also gets reborn again.\u00a0 In some other form\u2026 or some other place.\u00a0\u00a0 At least\u2026. that is what I think.<\/p>\n

The thing that got me started was an article I read on the oldest tree.\u00a0\u00a0 In Sweden\u2026. there a Yule tree which has root system that has been growing for 9,550 years.\u00a0 That is stinking OLD.\u00a0 That is like WAY back to around the end of the Ice Age.<\/p>\n

But above ground\u2026 the actual offshoot of the tree is only 600 years old.\u00a0 Who could have more years than that?\u00a0 The oldest living-standing tree on earth is a bristlecone pine that is found in California.\u00a0 Scientists believe it to be over 4600 years old. They keep the exact location of the tree hidden.<\/p>\n

Some things last a long time… and others pass quickly.<\/p>\n

Take, for instance, the good old house fly.\u00a0 Four weeks tops.\u00a0\u00a0 And the Mayfly?\u00a0 It only lives from one hour to 24 hours.\u00a0 Mayfly doctors are BUSY!\u00a0 They are constantly saying\u2026\u00a0 \u201cYou only have one hour to live.\u00a0 Holy crap\u2026. I just have about an hour more than that!\u201d<\/p>\n

But who\u2019s counting?\u00a0 I guess anyone who is keeping time.<\/p>\n
