Advice.\u00a0 Now\u2026 I think this is a word that had fallen adrift in recent years.\u00a0 There was a time, when \u201cadvice\u201d was given freely.\u00a0 And people asked for it\u2026 as often as they gave it.<\/p>\n

\u201cTake my advice on this.\u201d …. OR….\u00a0 “If you want my advice…”<\/p>\n

I first took someone\u2019s advice when I was about six or seven.\u00a0 IN a candy story.\u00a0 I was going to buy a Charm\u2019s Sour Pop.\u00a0 But my friend talked me into getting one of those really pretty lollipop deal s\u2026 the kind that are multicolored and swirl around.\u00a0 (Like Shirley Temple used to snack on.)\u00a0 At any rate\u2026 I was a sucker.\u00a0 That sucker sucked.\u00a0 It tasted like stale sugar\u2026 not at all as good as a Charm\u2019s Sour Pop.\u00a0 That was the last time I ever took Blinky Pendleton’s advice on ANYTHING.<\/p>\n

Anyways\u2026\u2026\u00a0 nowadays\u2026 you just don\u2019t hear \u201cadvice\u201d as often as you used.\u00a0 Ahhh\u2026. but it doesn\u2019t mean it isn\u2019t there. Yes… it seems these days \u2026. we just call it something different.<\/p>\n

It is called an opinion.\u00a0 \u201cWhat did you think of the movie?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cWell\u2026 in my opinion\u2026. it wasn\u2019t very good.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 OR\u2026. \u201cHow is that restaurant that just opened?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cOh, it is SO great.\u00a0 But that is just my opinion.\u201d<\/p>\n

It is like having an opinion is less committal than giving your advice.\u00a0 Advice is something you can bank on.\u00a0 Solid.\u00a0 Like a rock.\u00a0 And if someone is wrong\u2026 and they have advised you???\u2026.. WELL!\u00a0 That is almost grounds for a lawsuit.\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI took his advice and bought that book\u2026. and I still don’t have seven highly effective habits.\u00a0 Fool book!\u201d<\/p>\n

But if you give an opinion, it is like a \u201cfree pass\u201d card.\u00a0 “I like it\u2026 but you may not.\u00a0 JUST my opinion.”<\/p>\n

At any rate\u2026 tonight we ate dinner at a WAY crappy restaurant.\u00a0 It just wasn\u2019t very good at all.\u00a0 We went because someone recommended it to us.\u00a0 I can\u2019t remember if they used the line\u2026 \u201cin my opinion.\u201d\u00a0 But if they advised us?\u00a0 We will most definitely be heading to Small Claims Court.\u00a0 You can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish.<\/p>\n
