{"id":1025,"date":"2014-05-27T23:33:35","date_gmt":"2014-05-28T03:33:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/?p=1025"},"modified":"2014-05-27T23:33:35","modified_gmt":"2014-05-28T03:33:35","slug":"historical-been-theres","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/?p=1025","title":{"rendered":"Historical Been-Theres"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cable.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1027\" src=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cable.jpg\" alt=\"cable\" width=\"700\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cable.jpg 700w, https:\/\/gollypolly.com\/30473\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/cable-300x228.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>All of a sudden, I am looking at history a bit differently.<\/p>\n<p>I guess this is a direct result of my recent travels and experiences.\u00a0 I looked at \u201cToday\u2019s Historical Events\u201d and discovered these little gems.\u00a0 It seems that each one of them \u2026 for one reason or another\u2026\u00a0 seems somehow \u201crelatable\u201d to me.<\/p>\n<p>A short list\u2026. of \u201cOn This Day\u201d \u2026 in the year\u2026..<\/p>\n<p>1660 &#8211; Denmark &amp; Sweden sign ceasefire.\u00a0 (Heck\u2026 I\u2019ve been in both Denmark AND Sweden.)<\/p>\n<p>1703 &#8211; St Petersburg (Leningrad) founded by Peter the Great.\u00a0\u00a0 (Well\u2026 looky there.\u00a0 I spent a couple of days in St. Petersburg too.)<\/p>\n<p>1883 &#8211; Czar Alexander III crowned in Moscow.\u00a0 (Wouldn\u2019t you know?\u00a0 I walked through the same halls where Czar Alexander\u2019s feet-in-boots walked.)<\/p>\n<p>1907 &#8211; Bubonic Plague breaks out in San Francisco.\u00a0 ( How about that them Baked Beans! \u00a0 I ate Sourdough bread for lunch.)<\/p>\n<p>1933 &#8211; Walt Disney&#8217;s &#8220;3 Little Pigs&#8221; released.\u00a0 (It just keeps going.\u00a0 I had ham on my Sourdough Bread Sandwich.)<\/p>\n<p>1930 &#8211; Richard Drew invents masking tape.\u00a0 (When I was a kid, I read the Nancy Drew Mysteries.\u00a0 I have used masking tape on many occasions.)<\/p>\n<p>Holy Canoly.\u00a0 This is such a HUGE Small world.\u00a0 All connected.\u00a0 And intertwined.<\/p>\n<p>Like cable.\u00a0 And fence posts.\u00a0 Sort of.\u00a0 Or electrical wire, maybe.\u00a0 Or even string cheese at a deli.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cAnd God said, &#8216;Let there be light&#8217; and there was light, but the Electricity Board said He would have to wait until Thursday to be connected.\u201d\u00a0 \u2014\u00a0 \u00a0Spike Milligan<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; All of a sudden, I am looking at history a bit differently.
